Sandburg was apparently oriented not to material possessions but entirely to intellectual pursuits, still displayed as his mess of books and periodicals around which the rest of his life was centered. Sandburg’s wife Lillian was world champion goat breeder and established a goat dairy on the farm, an operation that is still a working part of the site. Overall the Sandburg home was quite interesting and totally different from other home tours.
... trip met or exceeded all our expectations. We had some wonderful experiences and with the exception of our primary debit card being eaten by a Madrid ATM and getting colds the last 10 days or so, everything went as planned, even the weather cooperated without fail. Europe 2014, our longest trip away from home so far, only whet our appetite for new experiences to come. We'll savor it for the next month or so and then began to plan 2015. Didn't get a chance to upload an entry yesterday. It's really Tuesday as I write this.
We left Knoxville in the morning and drove to Greenville, South Carolina. Had a nice visit with Gloria and Dennis. Betty's sister and her son. Both were very gracious and friendly. It was a nice visit, but we forgot to take pictures. We're still kicking ourselves over that.
