Los Angeles had no appeal for us so we skirted it and headed north to the coast. Ventura was our first glimpse of the Pacific and its famous surfing lifestyle. We spent three days a little further up the coast at Morro Bay Beach. The water was too cold for swimming but the beach provided interesting bird watching – curlews, godwits and willets.
