... separates Lake Superior from a bustling deep harbor in Superior Bay. The Aerial Lift Bridge – the landmark of Duluth, provides access/egress to the "Point” where there are numerous residences, parks and recreational facilities. Every 2 hours, the bridge raises 225ft and a large ship passes underneath. As the deck goes up, large concrete counterweights (measuring 20ft wide x 60 ft high x 10 ft thick) drop to block ...
Duluth, Minnesota, United States jimcabayWhat was meant to be a warm camping trip where we could swim and enjoy the sun turned into a cold time, with gale storms to add to the mix. It was still a good time nonetheless.
We went beyond Duluth to a place called Boundary Waters. A place my wife wants her family to see, reminiscing of her summer in Minnesota. We took ...

5) High point of the day: We finally drive over to Isabel's apartment and get to see her and Barry's wife, Linda. She is looking great for all her young 91 years. We then drive over to a local restaurant right on the water. It has great views of the harbor. We have a very nice dinner and conversation with everyone. Brady has a great time looking around the harbor and going on a harbor hike with Barry.

The tricky part about engine cooking is that it’s different on different makes of car. The manifold is the best and hottest spot but my manifold is tucked away and I can’t get to it. Also, my trusty cookbook: Manifold Destiny by Chris Maynard and Bill Scheller (written 20 years ago and updated ...
We left Thunder Bay, Canada, after spending a great few days, and headed south towards the border. We arrived to an empty border crossing and as we have come to expect were asked to pull over and proceed into the building, I suspect they were bored, which doesn't help. After the usual questions and a few new ones, we were asked if we had any documentation that might show we still lived in New Zealand.
The agent then proceeded to type additional information into our file, and then ...
We have had absolutely beautiful weather, sunny and mid 70's.

... miles before we entered the paper-mill town of Grand Rapids where there was the largest pile of logs I have ever seen - 50 ft high and about quarter of a mile long. The other highlights of today were getting the car washed at the geographical centre of North America, re-crossing the Mississippi, and buying a coffee thermos in the town where Judy Garland was born. Nuff said!

Saginaw, Minnesota, United States vwinans... settled in, as much as one can without clothes, medicine etc. After dinner we went back to the airport and found the bags sitting on the carousel in the deserted airport. There were no staff in attendance! We wondered how long it would take for the others to have their luggage delivered to them. Overall, we have not been impressed with North-West but they are the only airline that flies the routes we are taking.
