We were pleasantly surprised with how amazing the Country Inn & Suites was. It seemed to have been remodeled recently, as everything was very modern. We were fortunate in that we had won a free nights stay in one of their suites!! The room was very nice, large, and comfortable. They had a wonderful pool area, however after moving all day, we were just too tired out to utilize it. We were most impressed with the hot breakfast this morning. Breakfast burritos!! We would definitely stay here again!!

        Saying Goodbye to Duluth

These last few days have been a whirlwind. We had our going away party on Saturday. On Sunday Dustin was able to go out with his cousin Zach and cousin's roommate (other) Zach to hit the golf course. While he was away, I was able to relax after having a blast at the going away party the night before. We then headed up to our good friends Bruce and …

... hotel is pretty nice. We plan on getting breakfast on the road tomorrow since the hotel charges for breakfast, but our parking was included which is rare for a downtown hotel. The room is a really nice size. Once we get to a normal small hotel room, we will be really claustrophobic after these nice big rooms.

        ... talk about "their guys".

I did a lot of investigating the iron ore shipping trade out of Duluth/Superior. Very interesting. These massive docks have a ramp for each of the ship's hulls and, after the ship is in position, they load the iron ore (or wheat) directly into each hull with each ...

... we saw Common Loons with a baby and Trumpeter Swans (Travis and I got to add these to our Life Lists). The call of a Common Loon is by far my favorite bird call. Wee-ooo quee….. hoooo-lii!!! There was a seven mile driving tour that is nothing but wetlands and ponds on either side of the road. Our species list ended up not being very long but we only spent a brief amount of time at the refuge.

        ... Because it's awesome.

One aspect of middle ground might be hitting the popular restaurants and seeing the sites with a local. Being a tourist with perspective. My friend Julie is essentially a Duluth local: she grew up in nearby Cloquet (only 20 miles out) and colleged at UMD (University of Minnesota - Duluth), so I was thrilled when she ...
