    ... we saw Common Loons with a baby and Trumpeter Swans (Travis and I got to add these to our Life Lists). The call of a Common Loon is by far my favorite bird call. Wee-ooo quee….. hoooo-lii!!! There was a seven mile driving tour that is nothing but wetlands and ponds on either side of the road. Our species list ended up not being very long but we only spent a brief amount of time at the refuge.

    ... in the mid 80's and not a lot of traffic. Really a nice day's riding. Stopped at a couple of tourist markers to get a feel for this area and fund out that this has been a very interesting area over the years. One marker I stopped at commemorated a forest fire in 1977 that destroyed a huge section of the forest up here. According got the marker, in about fifteen more years (50 years since the fire) the area will have recovered to ...
