DETOUR

So here we are in paris and i am back to hunting and pecking at a keyboard, instead of the qwerty format its something messed up and french. So we have made it overseas to another country atleast. We are going to miss our little meet and greet with our tour in dublin but our tour guide said she would give us the low down once we got there so we arent bad off. The put us on an air france flight from jfk to here so we were surrounded by the indescernable sounds the french call a language.

In fact, I told her that I was really hopeful that she was going to tell the truth and I was going to celebrate and get her a BIG ice cream. I asked her why ... and she was being genuine and sincere with me and remorseful. I asked her if she was scared (because all lying is ...

Its across the street from Le Grand Palais, which is known for its glass structure and was built for the World's Fair in 1900. Perhaps I will buy a ticket for the ballet there. But first I begin with a treat..un palmier, that wonderfuly buttery, crusty pastry, and my first macaron, the prized treat of Paris. I snack and mmmm ...

First week in Paris

... visit rooms that the general public doesn't get to see, so I will post some pictures. I was in the same room that Marie Antoinette was tried! Afterwards Jen and I went to a nearby pub and ate a snack and talked for awhile. Friday July 4 Jen and I had a blast shopping. We went to Gallerie Lafayette and Printemps. It was AMAZING. We also went to Colette (on Rue St. Honore) which is a store that kind of reminds me of what you'd find on Queen West in Toronto (or ...

Day 9

... l'Evolution, stopping along the way at a public restroom, which oddly enough captured everyone's attention. Apparently self-cleaning toilets would be quite the success in the States, as would public bike rentals - see attached photos. Immediately upon our entrance we could tell that this particular museum was going to be a crowd pleaser. After an hour of skeleton, animal, fish, and other creature discovery, they were ready to head back to school.

... or gypsies keep you from having a great time. 2. Sometimes things with the most hype - Moulin Rouge - are a little disappointing while sometimes unexpected moments - seeing the kids in the train station and recalling our own backpacking experiences with our own girls - are priceless 3. A noisy, alive and energetic part of a city is probably not going to be dangerous 4. Rip up those travel books but bring a clip to keep the pages together.

Midnight roll through Paris

... go to dinner until 9 p.m.  After almost 30 years of marriage, only here do I ever wake up next to him, and only here does he ever see midnight. Tonight we were walking home from dinner after midnight when we heard police whistles. A moment later we were treated to a whirlwind of thousands of rollerbladers streaming down our street: The midnight rollers!  The 'Paris-Roller' meets every Friday night for a 30-35 ...

Un week-end a Paris

... four days than I consumed during my entire 2-year stay in Japan. But everything is delicious, and the smells are all-pervasive, so it's hard to pace oneself. As we predicted, the city is almost prohibitively expensive, especially at the tourist hotspots, and although we have been trying to avoid spending too much, we figure it's time to head out to some greener country, and hopefully cheaper digs. This afternoon, we're planning to take the train down ...

Thoughts on the next 2 months

... Europe. Personally, I really love renaissance painting, even though I could never pull off the style-thank god for modern, expressionistic painting because I am not a detail woman behind the brush-impression is more of my thing by the hand. In Florence and Milan I am there for the art, not really for the photography. But I will use what I learn from the styles of art to apply to my photography in Spain. I am also really into recomposing already existing art work in ...
