Scenery in Garden City UT and area

We spent a week in Garden City UT. Kinda cold, so we mostly stayed inside and did some necessary taxes and bill pays and other administrative work. But we did take a few walks and have a picnic lunch (in the car) a couple of days at the lake. On our way to the next destination (Panora IA). Looking forward to visiting the Timms!

... of the condition of the on/off ramps kept us going, though slooooowly.
Other than that, I saw a car manufacturing plant in Flint with the most smoke stacks ever, I had my first crossing of the mighty Mississippi River (maybe at its most narrow point at Le Clair, IL), saw loads of farms in Iowa, drove my first two hours of the trip, and witnessed Bob master the new iExit app on my phone to find the best hotel here in the lovely Des Moines, Iowa. Oh yeah, and finished at +3 ...

We took the plunge and pulled out of the driveway. The house was pretty well emptied and Freddie was filled to near capacity with The Liitle Gulp firmly fastened to her car dolly. We had agonized over the weather reports (-25 wind chills with near blizzard wind gusts on Valentine's Day) and decided to wait it out until Sunday. Well, here we were. It was time to go.

With -5 registering on the thermometer, we dressed in boots, hats, mittens ...

De Moines - Iowa's Ornate State Capital

      ... capitol.

Some of the highlights for me of Iowa’s state house are the
magnificent Iowa State Library housed in the building and the numerous
monuments around the grounds. Situated on a low hill (yes, there are a few of
those in Iowa) with a good view west toward downtown Des Moines and surrounded
by large a large green park I found Iowa’s capitol to have one of the nicest
surroundings of the many state capitols I’ve visited.
