Family fun!

... to do much besides just enjoy each other's company. They have taken us to a few places such as the university where Peter used to lecture, and a nearbye chocolate and liquorice factory (Nina will know how much I would enjoy that, particularly all the free samples.) We have been out for meals once or twice and had a lovely BBQ the evening before Peter's 70th with Claire's family. On the big day just the four of us ate out ...

Only a short first day

Wagga Wagga After delaying our departure 1 day we spent the first night away at the Rossiter family guest house and spend a great quick night over a couple of beers and a home made Rossiter Pizza. Great to catch up with friends and this will be one thing both Rebecca, myself and the kids will find the hardest over the next 10 months To all the people we missed on the way north we will catch up with on the way south next year

Wagga Wagga?

... And, there, we unexpectedly saw our first kangaroos, wallabies, and emus. Funny enough, while the female kangaroos were up and wandering around and feeding the baby kangaroos, the male kangaroos were dozing in the sun. Doing nothing. I suppose there are certain behaviors that transcend all species. **Paul wants everyone to know that he disagrees with my conclusion. As always, I feel a little strange about ...

The Top of Australia

... Jenny, I wish you had been there, it was just like that time Rab and I dropped you down to Fermanagh on Christmas Eve, you would have loved it! Naturally, I won the most gummy snakes, and if anyone suggests that it was because I kept changing the rules to suit myself, don't believe a word of it... P.S. Fiona, thanks for the tip-off, I was stunned and delighted to pick up the Martin Hayes cd in Canberra... he's as good as it gets!

Marathon Drive

... the main street. This was the quintessential Australian country town and I wished that I was booked there - and not just because I had another 300km to drive. The town reminded me of the setting for the excellent film The Year My Voice Broke. The petrol attendant was very amused by my credit card. "Do you like get a dozen eggs for every $100 you spend?" I struggled on and thankfully things begain to progressively green up the closer I got to Wagga Wagga. An old couple I'd ...

Wagga, Twice the surprise

A short drive (short in distance, long in driving time) North East of Melbourne is a town called Wagga Wagga (or simply pronounced Wogga) where we caught-up with some old friends from South Africa -Gavin, Chantell and their beautiful little boy Kyle (aged 4). Gavin and I have been friends for 32 years and he and his wife were gracious enough to put us up for the weekend in 5 ...

Trains again but little ones

... Museum (really just across a road). We saw one Steam loco which we had seen at the Diamond Valley railway (Eltham Park) only a few weeks back. We stayed there about 1 ½ hours and took photos - they had 2 steam engines running and 3 diesels. We left their and headed for the Antique Shops for a look - we had seen 3, but only one was open. Went to the visitors ...

tyre pressures and the road

... to get into place we forgot to put up the TV antenna before we raised the van roof. This was rectified later by me climbing up our little ladder (thanks to Verina) and inserting the antenna into the clip, and Ted who poked the tree branches away with a long metal pole. Otherwise all well - did the week's washing which almost dried in the wind - the dryers finished it off OK. We went straight to the Visitors' Centre - these are grouse places in any town you ...
