... like we would be spending the night on the streets of Mackay and if you've seen Mackay you would understand that its not the best way to spend an evening. in the end we were offered to share a single bed or sleep on the street. On the positive we saved money and were leaving at 4:30am anyway to go hunting for Platypus in Eungella national park

A Long Drive that got longer !!
... no such luck and an extra 100 kms on the journey. We are getting better at setting up and it was'nt long before Roger was cooking dinner again.. See his visitors,,,Oh! he mended my bed ????
We have worked out that our 10,000 kms route will cost about £1000 in fuel. Fuel here costs about $1.5 a litre and the "Doll" drinks a litre every 10 kms, £1.00 = $1.5 ...

... from gladstone before we reached rockhampton we stopped to fill the tank and off we went.... It's just a desert, an Australian bush desert, the highway is just dual lane and its long and straight and it is HOT! If we thought the other day that we had a feel for just how big a country can be, how spread out it can be, and how low the ratio of population to land can be then we where wrong that realisation just grows everyday here in Queensland.... - "the sunshine ...
Super boats in Mackay
... the TV last night they were advertising the Superboat Championships in Mackay. We have seen these boats in Geelong a couple of times which we enjoyed immensely. The Mackay Tinnie and Tackle Show was also on and we spent an enjoyable day at the marina.
The weather has been a bit colder today, still shorts but the wind is quiet cold when out of the sun, just a taste of what is to come I guess.

More bloody scenery....
We had to go into Rocky from Keppel Sands to get onto the main road and between Rocky and Mackay there's not much to see. Apart from some great road signs, it's an area where a lot of people must fall asleep at the wheel as they have the usual rumble strips along the side of the road and the usual "Arrive Alive" signs but they've taken it one step further up here with " Are we there yet, Mum?" signs, followed by "Long way to go yet, kids!" ...
