Kinda was at the conference so after seeing the local Saturday market of fruit and veg and clothing, I caught a local bus to Philippi, an ancient city named after Phillip of Macadonea, the father of Alexander the great. This city was located about 15 KM's from Kavala in the countryside. It was located near some mines and built on a swamp and changed hands many times. It was also the site where St Paul ...

The very last leg of my Greek journey was a visit to Cape Seunion with the remarkable Temple of Posejdon facing the Mediterrean Sea. The sanctuary of Poseidon at Cape Sounion is one of the most important sanctuaries in Attica. The site was inhabited in the prehistoric period. On the bus again for 3 hour drive to catch another overnight ferry back to Italy. Dinner supplied on the ferry and we played Monopoly with Kirsty ...

      Blockade Busting

... as a client, but that too was closed. So we ended up at the oldest restaurant in Greece (if that is not true, blame Lonely Planet), 134 years. It is a broken family restaurant, Mum does the serving, Grandma does the cooking. The children probably have a job somewhere else, and husbands have disappeared completely. Followed the Dodo, Greeks do smoke a lot. In the kitchen we chose the shrimps, deep fried, selected the salads, three of them and ordered drinks. Very nice ...
