This we we took it easy with short drives each day to get from Boston, through New Hampshire and Vermont back into New York State and then south to Pennsylvania. ... if I can get a replacement for my purple suede's but no luck there. We headed out to a place called the Amish village that was formally an Amish house and farm. Had the 45 minute guided tour of the house and our guide was really informative. He wasn't Amish, but has spent time with them and had a really good understanding of their way of life. Back to the motel now and we will be having a bit of an early night. ...
... Sunday here. Pity is, Sunday is their Sabbath, so we wont be able to visit their places of business until Monday.
We kicked of this morning by having a run (me) and sleeping a bit longer (Bec), before a visit to Trader Joe's - we are hooked - their prepackaged salads are a perfect lunch for the road. Today was the first day that we actually hit the interstates, so we made pretty good time most of the way at 65mph. Bec took the chance to have a bit of a ...
... alive and apart from their farms, they run plenty of antique and handicraft shops (their quilts are famous!) as well as restaurants and bakeries. Amish cuisine is hearty and rich and they are experts in preparing pickles, jams, meats and pretzels. Also the people are helpful, friendly and very religious - the world seems still ok in a simple, old-fashioned way.
