We hopped into Julio's 2001 Subaru forester (great ride) and cranked the AC. Surprisingly the car was not a manual car.... I thought only Americans were into automatic vehicles... guess not. Julio attempted to strike up conversation with us in Spanish, and I mistakenly told him I LOVED to play basketball, when I really meant to tell him I loved to WATCH basketball... oops oops
... ramshackle apartment complexes. The streets, previously surprisingly clean, are covered with the detritus from life in this part of the world. It's a busy place with an incredibly diverse and multicultural populace. Not far into our journey we're stopped by a police officer, who begins speaking to us in rapid Spanish and thankfully Jesus is able to translate for us. The officer is explaining to us that the route ahead is highly dangerous ...
... and I didn't feel the need to add pepper or salt (of which there wasn't any on the table anyway), so I guess this gets a tick. Once again though, nothing out of the box.
Next up was a skewer of octopus grilled with a little onion, red and yellow capsicum and some boiled potato. The octopus was a tad overcooked and as a result a little chewy, but the selection of vegetables worked quite well with the seafood, particularly the potato, which was an unexpected inclusion.
... for the canal, he had to re-learn English. If you saw in my previous post from Miraflores a video of Ildaura speaking (in Spanish), she mentioned that all canal workers must speak English and Spanish. English is absolutely necessary since it is the language that dominates in the maritime and business/commerce world.

... the whole of the city! Being a feeble, make up wearing female had definitely worked in my favour. Hurrah sexism...! As I'd woken up pretty early due to Panama being 6 hours behind, I had pretty much the full day at my disposal and so made the 45 minute long walk to Casco Viejo, the old town and world heritage site of Panama.
