    ... to pick up speed. Lunch, you will not be surprised to hear, was on the agenda. We stopped at the first sign of food and were delighted to find a large shady terrace overlooking a reservoir.     ... to see Highly productive gardens in the yards of these little homes. Then, speaking to one of the guides, I found that the people are so poor that they have to grow their own vegetables and raise chickens so they can eat.     ... But we were very pleasantly surprised. The room had been renovated and was very spacious, clean, modern and comfortable. Phew! The town itself was also 'interesting'. There were many very old, decrepit and ugly Soviet era buildings in the town, many of them deserted, that were in complete contrast to some of the swankier areas along the water front.     ... asked for a fan and the front desk girl said they do not supply them. But then a few minutes later, a fan was brought to our room. She had friend bring hers from home for us, very attentive.

    I was bushed and took a 2 hour nap. We had lunch in our rooms, salami, ripe red tomatoes and bread.

    We walked over to the Provit supermarket and bought a few supplies. It is a good store but, sadly, has no deli.
