    ... I went to take a closer look at one ladies basket. She spoke Spanish. I asked her what the occasion was. And she replied that her 70 year old mother had passed away. Her friend went inside the store and came back with a spoon and insisted we'd try the dessert. It was almost a thick pudding consistency with soft wheat kernels and nuts in it. Not too sweet and quite delicious.

    ... told that Bulgaria is receiving money from the European Union. They seem a bit better off compared to what we saw in Romania. The houses seem to be in better repair and cared for, less trash around. Its been 24 years without communism but still a long road for the people.

    ... the warm dish is eaten when it is still warm.
    To cook for ourselves is more difficult or in any case it is again different from what we are used to. In supermarkets or the like we hardly find fresh vegetables. These we have to buy at small stalls outside of the shops.
    Overall, we really did like the food and certainly will take some of the recipes with us to cook at home and have some friends over to taste what Bulgaria is like!
