... then we rushed the last 3/4 in about 5 minutes! We finally got to Ito and collected our car for three days. This region doesn't feature in the Lonely Planet but is a popular tourist spot for Japanese. We head south down the coast road and there are some lovely views. ... products, lots of them packed in fancy gift boxes. The people at the registration desk are friendly, but hardly speak any English, so communication is kind of difficult. We had wanted to have dinner in the Winery itself, they pride themselves for the delicious food that is served there. But as it turns out they only serve lunch at the Winery and we are told we can have dinner at the hotel and that it will be a dinner made with local products. After trying to communicate with the ...

In the main hall of the Ryosenji Temple in Shimoda on May 25 1854 Perry signed the Shimoda Treaty appending the U.S. Japan Treaty of Peace and Amity (Kanagawa Treaty) which was signed in Kanagawa earlier on March 31 1854. Russia signed their Treaty of Shimoda with Japan in 1855, explaining the memorial in Japanese and Russian. In the bay is a beautiful densely treed little island with a small red tori. There is ...
