23A Milburn Street, PO Box 3058 Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand, 3-4871-0000
Dunedin is a city of hills. As such, one of our first stops was Baldwin Street, the steepest street in the world (really; it's in the Guiness Book of World Records). It doesn't look that bad from the bottom, but once you start to hike up, it gets much worse. We made it, feeling a certain satisfaction, and while resting at the top were entertained by cars struggling to the top. We had heard that unless you get some good momentum going before you reach the really steep part, you won't ...
Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand jwatson... by the pretty cathedral. Dunedin has a lot of Scottish influence, so I bought some Scottish shortbread. Then we returned to the station to take our seats on the Taieri Gorge Railway. On a lovely old train we journeyed for over 2 hours through farms, rolling hills, fields, and across rivers to a stunning gorge cut deep into the rock. There was not a house to be seen, just trees, rock and river. It was beautiful, especially with the Autumn colours. We got off the train a couple ...
Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand angela_louiseWe finally left the totally authentic Village Inn this morning and said goodbye to Te Anua, which had been a much more enjoyable base than it had seemed when we drove in, in the pouring rain on Monday morning. Driving south east, through an ever flattening landscape towards Gore on the SouthOtago plain and then on to Dunedin, although there were some decent hills on the way, after the mountains and valleys of Southland, the views were very different to the ones we had got used to ...
Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand nickadamsEN: Our first full day in the Otago region was rock formations day. :-) We headed towards the coast through the Waitaki Valley, but in Duntroon we made a detour to go check out the Elephant Rocks, a big bunch of boulders sculpted by erosion (didn't we say it was rock formations day?), lying in a field, which make for quite a bizarre and peaceful landscape. Because of its otherworldly appearance, this area was used as a setting for the movie Chronicles of Narnia. Speaking of ...
Portobello, South Island, New Zealand aguasI was up early again today, oh my I have had enough of constant 6am starts! Call this a holiday! ANyway, got a bus from Queenstown to Dunedin this morning and arrived at lunchtime. I've just been on the internet and now about to go off to Cadbury World :o) I would enjoy it much more if my stomach weren't feeling vomitous today but that's how it goes.. my world doesn't stop spinning or moving when I finally get off transport/stop walking delete as ...
Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand lou82I had heard plenty about Dunedin from other New Zealanders that I'd met about the place so I thought it was worth a visit, it was good enough, took a nice ride on a train for a day. Was good enough craic. Picto and meself took it easy while McCoy went for a spin in a Pajero ;) We went out one night here but nothing much was happening. The hostel was decent but the nicest thing about Dunedin was the coffee shops pretty much!
Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand hugh_mc_manus... Denne gang var temaet "Artists and Movies". Kan faktisk ikke helt huske præcist hvornår denne fest blev holdt - men har f ...
Dunedin, New Zealand slumber... he was the salesman, so when he went off to sell the beer, the publicans got the impression they were dealing directly with the main man. You bought your ale from Speight, so it should be called Speight's Ale. How Dawson and Greenslade felt about this is not well recorded. The brewery was sited directly above a well, to ensure a constant source of pure clean water for the brewing process. They still draw their water from it, and there is still a tap outside the front ...
Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand jacobandkirsty... feeling of an old country town with the local pub where the farmers go to talk shop. While on the farm i was lucky enough for there to be 7 new-born baby lambs need bottle feeding all day and i wasn't going to complain about feeding them. Now I'm heading on a tour of Southland with Bottom-bus for 3days visiting The Catlin's, Inveraregill and Stewart Island, its more of a tour than Intercity. While in The Catlin's we visited Curio Bay and ...
Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand jessmarshall... with another good day we went back up the Milford Road for a cruise. The journey from Te Anau takes two hours, beginning with a sector of farmland and then suddenly into the huge flats of the Eglinton Valley with kilometre high walls. Then it is into and out of forest, up the avenue of the disappearing mountain (on further research, an illusion that happens whenever you drive through forest) and then into the mountain section, which twists into an apparent ...
