Almond Dr. Corozal Town, Corozal, Belize, 501-422-2691-
Corozal Town, Corozal, Belize elmaildelorenzoGoing to Belize was a kind of adventure - already before crossing the border we had to go through talks with local Mexicans trying to squeeze money out of the passing tourists. As you could imagine this was not Tijuana and four Polish nationals driving in a rented Mexican car was probably the attraction of the day. For sure people on the border did not make an impression as if they were in a rush or something. Before the car was allowed to set a tyre on the Belizean soil, it had to be fumigat...

Corozal Town, Corozal, Belize ramblerWe were very keen to leave Orange Walk after our experiences there; so we were up early on Friday to catch the bus to Corozal. We waited and waited at the bus station and watched bus after bus to Belize City, to Belmopan, to Placencia and to Punta Gorda go past. But none to Corozal. We'd heard that Corozal was quiet, but there was supposed to be a bus service there. After two hours of waiting, a friendly Belizean man approached us and asked us ...
Corozal Town, Corozal, Belize sam180... they still speak German. They have no telle or raido and some only use horse and cart (but these ones had trackers and utes!) they wear overalls with chequered shirts and hats and beards.(who would have thought there were Germans in Belize!) Then we reached the ruins right in middle of no where in the jungle, very nice. There was a massive statue of a face at the front of a ...

Corozal Town, Corozal, Belize darkproject2... headed down to the river to Jane's Hotel. the lonely planet described it as " ram shackled and thin walled but with a certain charm" and that was a perfect description. The rooms were basic but at $8.50 a night would couldnt complain. Jose who worked there cooked us dinner and organised our tour up the river to Lamanai, a Mayan site set in the heart of the jungle The boat trip took about 90 minutes between riverbanks dense with vegetation. the guide pointed out crocodiles, turtles and ...
Orange Walk, Belize pjcrus... the jungle. The second was a small pyramid in front of which they found a large stele, made from quartz, that was extensively carved with the image of a king plus the hieroglyphics that went with it. These told us it was Lord Smoking Shell. The final pyramid has been excavated inside and here they found that going back two layers of pyramid there where still four large mask carvings on the wall. One has been left exposed; it is about 6 ft square in size ...
Orange Walk, Belize mikeandmary... it won't be very strong when it hits land. Belize should be spared everything except possibly a little rain. We are watching the storm here and will head down to Belize City if it looks like it will hit land closer to where we are. The good thing about Hurricanes is you have plenty of time to get out of the way. We will leave Sunday if the storm doesn't turn farther north. Thoughts on Belize so far: The people here are really great. There ...
Orange Walk, Belize gbendeck... good looking) - the nice crowd, good music and ridiculous Conch Ceviche inspired me to stay an extra night. Unfortunately no pictures were taken of Jam Rock because it was never quite clear if I would leave with the camera intact! What Corozal lacks in tourist amenities it makes up for with stark honesty - I enjoyed it for that reason. No vacation packages, no red carpets, no junior suites. Just real folks living real life, making it work one day at a time.
