We thrns et off towards Genrio. We had no choice but to use the Interstate I-40 as the next few miles of the Route 66 is on Private Land, so we went off towards the New Mexico State line.

As we hit New Mexico, the clocks went back an hour.

... traveled a few miles outside of Amarillo to the Cadillac Ranch, home of the iconic public art space filled with Cadillacs buried nose-down into the ground all at symmetric angles facing the west. This "art" located in a field alongside the highway was created 40 years ago by an art group called the Ant Farm. Overall we were not that impressed - underwhelmed is an appropriate word. ... on the pedal bike pulled up to the cafe. He asked Joe to take some photos for him on the midpoint. Joe had a talk to him and indeed he was riding the route from Chicago to California! ... cotton, cows and crude oil, kick up clouds of dust. Texas is massive!!! Driving over the border and another time zone into New Mexico is much the same…huge, slightly less flat with a couple of mountains plonked on the horizon (the nearest being Haystack Butte!) and the road just goes on and on and on...

Exactly what we were expecting but on a much bigger scale and we're still only just over half way across...
