It took 2 hours to get to San Diego zoo and another 20 minutes to get to Mexico We stopped briefly on the way for a restroom break and a drink or eat from vending machines. I got a blueberry muffin, packet of chips and bag of cookies for $4 so cheap..

That's not to say its COMPLETELY safe, but stay out of bad areas, and walking around at night alone, and you're going to be fine.
