The boat docks at 6am and announcements had warned us we'd be woken at 5.30am so it was an early start! I opened the curtains to see Devonport sparkling back at us in the pre-dawn light. Our cabin was on the starboard side of the ferry and facing away from the dock so our view was almost pretty - I'd been warned Devonport wasn't known for many redeeming features but it clearly retained a lot of that colonial architecture I expect to see so much of in Tasmania.

Erin had ...
Launceston, Tasmania, Australia cheli... all day long. Luckily the Sommelier, recently arrived from Sydney, was happy to oblige. Then it was on to the second night of gastronomy with a visit to the other famous local – The Stillwater River Café. This establishment is set in an old mill by the river and caters for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a café/wine bar as well as a well-appointed restaurant. It has won countless awards (and rightly so). The tasting menu was a must ...

Launceston, Tasmania, Australia travelfitzOur next stop in Tasmania was Launceston. On the drive there, we stopped off in Sheffield, the town of murals, so-called, funnily enough, because the locals had taken to painting huge pictures and landscapes on the walls of buildings in order to make the place more appealing to tourists. We also diverted to Mole Creek to visit the Trowunna Wildlife Park. For about 6GBP, we got to see kangaroos ...
Launceston, Tasmania, Australia tina_campbell... treatment of the Native Americans is very similar to their treatment of the Aboriginal people of Australia. I'm learning a lot-- making me think, you know... Ok, so after a wonderful and insightful few days in Melbourne, I'm off to Tasmania for what I feel like from the beginning, will not be long enough. I arrive in this little airport in Launceston - little. No jetway. Only stairs to the tarmac and through the door. There's ...

Launceston, Australia -mike-We decided to spend our final night in Tassie's other major city, Launceston. We drove up the coast, and inland a bit. The sky was clear finally, so it was a beautiful day to hang out at the blowhole and beaches. Ring of fires bay has the second best beach in the world. We concur, it's goregeous. Sand is fine, beach is long & clean, water is crystal clear and would be awsome to boogie board in. The Forests here are also beautiful with ...
Launceston, Tasmania, Australia gojoadventures... cafe. I'm trying not to cry. Anyway, moving on. Our time in Sydney seemed very short and I'm looking forward to being back there for a bit longer when I get back from Tasmania. So here I am in Tasmania, Launceston to be precise. It's lovely! Walked the Cascade Gorge this morning and catching up on some of the stuff that I didn't quite get done in Sydney. Off for a wilderness camping trip next - so if I survive - I should have lots of tales to tell on the next update.
