A Day In The Life

... safe.

I was feeling a bit hungry so I met up with a few friends that I know in the area and we all went out for dinner. We had a great meal, with plenty of booze and I was only too happy to pay the bill when it came. One of the guys knows the owner so we were able to sit around into the small hours, chatting and drinking. All on me, of course.

The next morning, I wasn't feeling my best but managed to drag myself out of ...

... campground as well if you want to bring your horse!

Many well marked and maintained trails for hiking and horseback riding. Easy paved roads through out to get you over to the beach at the swimming lake or the ramp at the boating lake or the group use building with large rolling lawn down to the water for fishing and kayaking/canoeing. There are playgrounds and a terrific group BBQ area with facilities for preparation ...

Lake Oconee pulls us back

... non building forest as it belongs to Georgia Power. So much to enjoy. We could build a life here and still be close enough to Florida to zip on down whenever we had a hankering to, without owning a house in a hurricane zone!! Could be a plan. We will keep looking for the magic to happen. We will know it when we find it.

Day 16 - Alabama to Georgia

... the whole way back. We even coordinated our stops very well. We were back in Atlanta at 5 pm - but luckily not too much traffic. We stopped at the new Barrow Publix for some dinner and milk. The kids got to play with the neighbors while we unloaded the car.

Whew!
Ready & Waiting

... that I can actually stand up in! Behind that we have pillows, sleeping bags, blankets (it's going to be cold in Glacier, Montana!), the grill, gallons of water, a huge first aid/emergency item kit, our 2009 Rand McNally, our tarp, and umbrellas. There is a "scrapbook bag" for Bri's future hobby. Beside it is an "into the hotel" duffel bag. Next to it is the "dirty duffel" with detergent and dryer sheets ...

Scalpels and syrings and snow...oh my!

... a pile of old swim warm-ups, the entire contents consisted of dozens of sharp scalpels, needle syringes, and various other bandages, wraps, etc. So my first thought is, "how on earth am I supposed to walk into our Atlanta airport with a bag full of weapons and expect to get through security?" I call a fellow church member who just happens to work at the airport and ask if I can get away with ...

Countdown Continues

... join Lindsey, and both of us were extremely disappointed when we were unable to attain a visa in time for the December trip. Our visa applications had us tagged as "missionaries", which we quickly learned was not a good thing. After five weeks of not being approved, we pulled our applications and canceled our flights. Several people had explanations for why we had to cancel our trip...it wasn't meant to be, God had a different plan for us ...

... or more to get approved, if at all. 6 months. That we did not have. Lindsey and I start to panic, just a little. We get on the phone with our state senators and friends who have friends in high places, we check out other possibilities that will give us any kind of option, but mostly all we can do is hope, and pray. Silly us for telling the truth about what we were going to do. Somehow the other 5 in our group instinctively knew to put ...

Buzz Kill

... the world die every day of this terrible disease. I'm making it a vow to order a mosquito bed net to send to a family in Africa every time I get a prescription for myself. You can join me in fighting off these pesky little bloodsuckers by donating to Nothing But Nets at http://www.nothingbutnets.net/. $10 will buy a net, deliver, and teach the family how to use it. One net will protect a family of four for up to four years. You can't beat that.

Tragedy in Mumbai

... and researching about the area, the different cultures, and the hospital we would be working in. I had already grown attached to the people I would be meeting and the experiences I would be having. My heart wept thinking of the devastation, the violence, and the senseless killing that was occurring. Listening to interviews with survivors, hearing them talk about seeing so many bodies...my imagination ran wild trying to comprehend it all. But it simply ...
