Historical Traveler Reviews of Corinthia Nevskij Palace St. Petersburg

Great Hotel!

Just returned home from our Russia river cruise. My husband and I spent one night at the Corinthia Nevskij hotel before boarding our river boat. We asked the hotel to send a car to the airport to pick us up, I highly recommend it, it was great seeing our name on a sign with the driver waiting for us. When we reached the hotel we were informed that we were upgraded to a suite, with no extra cost. That was a treat, the room was spacious, beautiful, clean, and very comfortable!! The staff at the reception desk were extremely helpful and friendly. We chose not to have breakfast at the hotel, it was very expensive, we ate at a local restaurant nearby. We felt very safe taking a walk the evening we arrived in the neighborhood of the hotel. Lots of shops and restaurants, etc. I highly recommend this hotel. It was well worth the money!!!

Clean, modern, somewhat bland but well used by Western guests. Choice of restaurants and bierstube in arcade good. Good location and feels safe inside complex. Warned about muggings when we checked in and security very visible.
You will notice a very small card on the desk alerting you to mosquitoes - this should be more prominent and please do use the repellant in the room...it is only after the first night and being feasted on that I found this. Judging by the number killed on walls/ceiling by previous guests I was not alone and this is a problem at this time of year.
Glorified 4 Star Hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed in Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel in St. Petersburg during March 2006.
I wasnt overly impressed with the hotel itself as I believe the overall standard is of a glorified 4 star hotel. The location was really good but the hotel itself felt a bit "dated" with its decor.
However, the service was quite good and worth mentioning. We arrived very early in the morning and the manager was very accommodating. Not only did they give us a room, they gave us an upgrade into a junior suite. The only problem was that the decor of the room wasnt so great ... it was in need of refurbishment.
The bathroom was that of a typical 4 star hotel, complete with plastic bin. This I did find a bit disappointing as it was a junior suite.
Also, the hotel has a few restuarants, most of which seemed to be closed during peak dining times in the evenings (and also were closed during the day for lunch). They only left you with one option for dining in the hotel while we were there ... the most expensive option. In addition, this restaurant had a "Spanish" theme week going on and one was limited to this restaurant and one type of cuisine ... Spanish! On more than one occasion, we had to resort to room service.
They do have a wonderful breakfast buffet but they dont tell you that there are two prices .. one for continental buffet and one for hot buffet. We had to ask about 5 people before we got a straight answer about this as they automatically charge you the full buffet price even though you may have only had a bowl of cereal! And even then the pricing is ridiculous. If you want a continental breakfast, this only includes breads and jams. If you want a piece of cheese of a piece of meat, you are charged the full amount (which is quite expensive)! They dont advertise any of this and it is up to you to figure it out. Even when we asked staff, most didnt speak any English and you couldnt get a straight answer out of them!
If this hotel had advertised itself as a 4 star hotel, I would be writing a different review. I would have probably quite liked it because I would then know what to expect. It certainly isnt the 5 star hotel I thought it was.
So good we came back

This was our second visit to St Petersburg and this hotel. We arrived on my wife's birthday and waiting in our delux room was a beautifully decorated plate with chocolate and chocolates wishing her a happy birthday. Which I thought was a wonderfull touch. The staff are attentive but not intrusive. As said by others it is in the center of the city so most sights are in walking distance. The food in the hotel is of a high standard and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the bar and cafe.
There is a lot of talk about crime in this city but we found that we felt safer here than a lot of European cities infact we felt safer here than our home city of Coventry
Located at the Center, Good Food

We stayed at the Corinthia Nevskij Palace for a week
while visiting St. Petersburg on a business trip. The
location is excellent - very close to many of the great sights
including the Anichkov Bridge, with its four sculptures of men
taming wild horses, and the bronze monument to Catherine the
Great. Normally, the hotel is also within easy walking
distance of the Hermitage museum but temperatures were 20
Celsius degrees below freezing last week so it was too cold
to walk very far. An excellent and extensive breakfast buffet
came with the room. Internet access has to be purchased either
one hour or one day at a time from the front desk. The hotel
style is low key modern Art Deco - not very interesting.
The rooms are medium sized but comfortable, quiet, and warm.
The service in general was good and the staff spoke good
English. It was expensive.

The staff was excellent and there were more staff in all areas of the hotel than in most others hotels. The hotel and our rooms were very clean and always being cleaned. The beds were comfy. The bathroom a nice size with great pressure. The workout/spa was clean and machines all worked. The only negative was a charge $12/day or $6/hour for wireless internet. The food was excellent. We felt safe. The location was great... We will stay in Feb2006. We visited the Radisson for comparision. This hotel felt less stuffy.

We stayed for 3 days at the end of October. Having read the other reviews we were expecting a first class hotel and were not disappointed. The hotel was clean well run with competant staff and fluent english at the reception (very helpful). The food was superb with a fantastic selection for breakfast. The Main restaurant was good but a little expensive. we found better value at the spanish restaurant nearby. The hotel is well situated for easy walking to the Hermitage (20 mins) & other attractions. The bedroom was spacious with queen size bed Bathroom & Shower were clean & Modern. i would have no hesitation in returning to Corinthia Palace again
Comfortable in St Pete
from A TripAdvisor Member
Clean, good service, fluent English. Rooms were to the standard of a very good quality US hotel. Not extremely luxurious but very comfortable. I spent little time in the room. Nice bar to have an iced vodka in the late evening. Restaurant was good but nothing to rave about. St Pete is a wonderful city but beware of pickpockets. Located in the heart of the city.
Fantastic Hotel

What can one add to the other reviews. This Hotel is Excellent it made for a very enjoyable stay in St Petersburg. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was of a high standard. We asked for a chauffer driven car to take us to the Peter Hof and they arrange one for us there and then. One of the Best Hotels we have stayed in. It may be pricey but worth every penny.
