The free day for me was really a day to relax, sleep in a little and enjoy exploring more of the city of Slema. We went out to the beach across from our hotel and I attempted to walk out on the rocks to the water, which I almost slipped and broke an arm. I succeeded on not falling but still looked like a goof! my wife and i stayed at this hotel in november 2006. looking forward to a pleasent winter break, and all was fine apart from this hotel, the room was directly below the resturant and beeing tiled floors the noise from the movement of tables and chairs went on till late at night. the service was very inpersonal both in the resturant and reception. courtisy travel advertised to golf club and valletta was only when they said and not when required as is advertised. unfortunatly i contacted salmonela during our stay probably from eggs, so the doctor said.which laid us both up for 5 days, they actually shut the main resturant for 5 days of the last week so we had to eat at one of the small cafe bars , overall it was very disapointing and would say it was more like a 3 star hotel at most, the only thing good was the weather and the veiw from our room.
5 Stars - In Which world?
The service is awful. I waited at the coffe shop for service (it was uncrowded) so long, I got up and left.
The mattress was worn out three years ago. There was mold in the bathroom. Soiled linnens were left in a pile on top of my luggage. Don't five star hotels usually offer three sheets on the bed?
Before I went on my trip to Malta, I searched this web and was quite struck by all the negative reviews about hotels in Malta and had started to think that hotel standards had to be low there..well, to share a positive expirience, I want to highly recommend Hotel Corinthia Marina in St. Julians.
Would recommend this Hotel, we stayed here in April 2006 for a short break. Arrived at reception to a welcome drink from the reception which we thought was a nice touch. Our rooms had great views of the bay and nicely decorated. Breakfast at the Hotel was excellent offered every type of breakfast. We were actually on Bed & Breakfast we had a meal in the Hotel J Henrys Bar/Grill and would not recommend it. We had dinner within the Hotel where breakfast is served which was most enjoyable. We had dinner in the pasta/pizza restaurant that the Hotel own which was ok. The rest of the time we had dinner out we jumped on the bus that stops right outside the Hotel and travelled 10 mins down the road to Spinola Bay which has a choice of restaurants that overlook the pretty bay. The Hotel has a wine bar which was great, we always finished our evening off in there with a bottle of red wine and a selection of different cheeses and biscuits. The Hotel offers a courtesy minibus that takes you to Sliemma or Valetta get there early for the minibus as it only takes 16 passengers. We enjoyed Malta we found the people so friendly that includes the Hotel Staff. We were lucky with the weather came back with a tan considering it was only a 6 night break in April.
After the farce of our previous hotel (see review on Bay Street Hotel), this place was a haven for us. As we transferred from another hotel, we had to wait in reception whilst a room was prepared, but even this area was comfortable, and we were provided with Welcome Drinks (a non-alcoholic version of the local spicy wine) whilst we waited.
Good 3 star hotel
The hotel claims a 5 star rating but I do not feel this is deserved. The rooms are a good size, clean and reasonably comfortable but the beds, bedding and room furniture are not of 5 star standard. There is no Concierge although the reception staff are very helpful.
Breakfast was disappointing and, although I had an early breakfast each morning, the food looked like it had been left standing for some time.
Nice hotel, but warmer service expected from 5 stars
we liked the dinner and breakfast buffets. we had a nice sea view from the room which was large.service was mixed. reception did not greet us with any welcome.collecting our key was as impersonal as withdrawing cash from an ATM.
However the same person was all smiles when we checked out (at check out you get to fill in a service questionaire).we got more good mornings from the other random guests we bumped into at the hotel! there was however one waitress at dinner and a waiter at breakfast which were very friendly.
we were surprised there was no kettle with tea/coffee in our room.i would have added carpets in the rooms and corridors to make the decor more comparable to other 5 star hotels i have stayed at.
We've just returned from a 9 night break at the Corinthia Marina. The hotel itself is no more than a 4 star in our opinion although the San Gorg sister hotel next door seems worthy of its 5 star status. Access to the San Gorg and its facilities is relatively easy if entered through the pool area rather than the road as indicated in a previous review. However, if you are not keen on steps maybe this isn't the place for you as everything is on different levels. The pools are somewhat small for the size of hotel and be aware that the Marina hotel allows paying Lido customers access to the pool area as well. The sea is easily accessible from the lower level of sunloungers. We only had dinner in the hotel once and, with the exception of the delicious puddings, it was not worthy of its price. The breakfasts were pretty standard fare but lacked a little variety. We found the waiting staff very pleasant and the reception staff varied between those who could not do enough for us and the opposite of the scale. My boyfriend loved the Starfish diving school and its fantastic divemasters. It's a fair old walk into the upmarket district of Spinola Bay for dinner unless you take the bus (which incidentally stops right outside the hotel) or a cab so don't even think about stilletoes! Paceville is closer - this is where the hoards of language students hang out at night although it's normally harmless fun. The potential noise from Paceville does not impact on the hotel which is very quiet. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday but would stay next time at the Hilton which looked fabulous and was also located closer to the restaurants of Spinola.
Ignore what the other review says, this hotel is a lovely place to stay and an ideal base for Malta. I have been here twice and the staff are all friendly and courteous and will often help you with anything as all Maltese people will.
St Julians can get noisy at night but the hotel is fairly quiet and is nice and spacious. Rooms are very very clean and are of a pretty decent size if you get a corner room you get a smaller balcony but bigger room. I actually work in the travel industry and have stayed all over the world this is one hotel I would always happily go back to over and over again!
Located conveniently on the edge of St Julian's, the Corinthia is a modern, bright hotel with a good waterside frontage. Rooms are comfortable and worthy of its five star rating. However, service was generally VERY poor. Staff in the restaurants were ruder, unhelpful and inefficient. The buffet restaurant was the biggest disappointment - the food was rarely topped up and had a VERY limited choice - usually just two or three dishes. Waiting staff were disinterested and often just ignored patrons - we regularly waited 15-20 minutes for water, while at breakfast we hardly ever got tea or coffee. The pools are very small for a hotel of this size, but you can use those next door. Don't though believe the claims that the Marina and San Gorg are on and the same 'Beach resort'. Guests from the Marina have to leave their hotel and walk up a steep hill and into the San Gorg to get to its pools (which were though very nice). Also be aware that both hotels are used for conferences, which meant that at regular intervals, hundreds of delegates flooded out around the pool.
