      ... 5 acres that confined 45,000 men from January 1864 to May 1865. Nearly 13,000 died and are buried in the nearby cemetery. More soldiers were both housed here and died here than in any other POW camp on either side of the war. The CSA commander of the camp was later hanged for war crimes of starving the prisoners although supplies were redirected to the fighting armies, where soldiers were also starving, rather than prisoners. ...

      ... of pine needles below them all along the highway. The grass is a little greener.

      We cross into Georgia and almost immediately there is a change. Some farm fields are a carpet of bright green (alfalfa or wheat???) Some fields have cattle and horses. One even had some donkeys. We got a good laugh when I call a miniature horse a "toy horse". Oh, well—whatever word works!

      Trees are beginning to flower. Bright redbuds light ...

      ... ie..batten down the hatches!! There was a lull until about midnight - then I proceeded through the night - in what best described as going through a continuous car wash!!...boy did it rain. I kept checking the outside ground to make sure there wasn't some creek rising up to get me!! Still rain this am...but warm again. Enough weather!!...boring-- but we do like to talk about it!!! Moving on - south into Florida today ...where to stay on this Christmas Eve??...somewhere dry I ...

      ... to our overnight stop, with a trip to Longhorn Steakhouse part way! After we dumped the bags we took a trip to Walmart, Trev bought himself an American Football and I bought nothing!- saving myself for the premium outlets tomorrow!!! On the way back to the hotel we found a place called Dairy Queen who sold.......wait for it.........SMORES MILKSHAKES!!!!! Needless to say I had one ...
