... which was a pretty spot. Nearby was the Metropolitan Church of Annunciation, situated on the Kolona Harbour near the tower & lighthouse of St. Nicholas. The church was beautiful inside with a large chandelier in it. ... with a city wall, towers, gates, and all the cool toys medieval towns have. However, cobblestone streets were not one of the cool toys. Sidewalks, streets, everything resembling pavement was done in river rocks stood on their sides. One fall, and you were finished. I'm sure the horses before cars just loved this place. Rhodes is the most important island in the group known as the Dodecanese or South Sporades. It is also the most easterly island of the Aegean Sea.

In Greek mythology, Rhodes was created by the sun god and a sea nymph. According to Homer, the first inhabitants were Dorian Greeks. A fortress was built and the city of Rhodes was founded.
