Today we just got back from the most incredible rock beach. The rock was solid formations of bleached white stone, rising in cliffs and leaning into the clear blue sea. The water was warm and the sun was way to hot. The bus system here requires us to shell out about ten euros a day to get around, but its worth it. From camping last night (in the sometimes unsleepable heat!), we woke up and bused into town and then to the Sarakini (the rock beach.) Our camera ran out of batteries ...
Milos, Cyclades, Greece aaronandmirna... sand and dirt across the island. The sand and dirt got into our eyes, throats, and noses and made it quite unpleasant. However, we rented a quad (no more weak Suzuki cars for us) to head to a protected cove away from the wind. We found a nice little beach bar and area set up on a cove and decided to spend the afternoon there. The sunning area was actually a flat landing of paved rocks and concrete that had been built out over the water and had a variety of lounge chairs and tables ...
Sifnos, Cyclades, Greece johnandrich... feel lonely) Almost in front of me there was another opened door - witch quickly I understood is also not a Cafenio but the house of one more fisherman. It's incredible how little space they need for feeling comfortable and happy. The room with the door opened to the sea was no more than 12 square meters. He had a big TV in there. A refrigerator, a bed a table 3 chairs and Many stuff that couldn't be identified from outside. This Klimatic person was in ...
Milos, Greece apenThe secrets of Milos One of the secrets of traveling to Milos is the beginning of the trip. If you take a boat from Piraeus ( and you should) try to spend at least one day in this port city . Most tourist use Piraeus only as a port to go to the Cyclades Island - Piraeus looks dirty and uninteresting. wrong You can rent a car for one day or ask a taxi driver to take you to the fish restaurants who are spread behind the old houses ...
Milos, Greece apenIf you take the ferry to Milos - do not take the fast modern one - It's more expensive Because of the time you save, some 3 hours less, but you will arrive to Milos sick and groggy - You are in vacation, so take your time - the regular ferry will take some 7-8 hours to reach the island but the travel is already a part of the vacation. Relax on the outside deck or have a great time reading calmly inside the very ...
Milos, Greece apen... so it's like paying for a room somewhere!!! I found some really cheap hostels but some are a min of 7 day stay - which would be fine except what if the place is not nice and they have your money!!! Oh well I have LOTS of time like god 20 days seems like a LONG time!!!! I am SO SICK of the food here and the men I HATE MEN. They are such sleazy ass's and everyday I have to yell at at least ...
Plaka, Greece lindsey-canada... to the mountain where there is a church. The only problem was that we did not know how to get up there. After many efforts we end up heading up a goat path with the car. I was so nervous we were making turns with no barrier stopping us from driving off the edge the pictures don't do it justice how steep the road was. The view on top were unbelievable.
Sifnos, Cyclades, Greece corrSo in Turkey and Greece I have seen signs that say "don't flush toilet paper down the toilet" I have pretty much attributed the sign to bad english thinking they meant don't flush paper towels and women's products down the toilets (like the signs you see in the US in certain spots)... after all why wouldn't you be able to flush wimpy toilet paper down the toilet? Well apparently I was wrong and you are ...
Paros, Greece chuckonearth... Egyptians, Myceans, Africans and others from around the Med. Everyone imported their own culture, so the island was a melting pot. It also served as a central bank of sort, with each nationality being able to change their local currency for a common currency used for trading on the island. Since Delos is small and has no natural resources everything had to be brought in. Delos was overrun and lay untouched until the 1800s when the French began to excavate much ...
Athens, Greece the_mcdonoughs... watched the sun go down. I'm excited about going into Athens for the day tomorrow and seeing all the history that is in that town. Also, the church service should be interesting with all of the different countries that will be represented there. Talk to you again soon.
