... slaying a fearsome beast to redeem the hero's honour,
- a belief that they are the fires that lit the first Olympic torch - after all, Mount Olympos is just up the road (The Greeks dispute that one)
- to the scientific explanation of gases escaping from metamorphic rock.
Whichever way you look at it, the fact that the fires have burnt for eons is "magic" and we're lucky to have seen it before the gas runs out.

You guys, I don't really feel it. I respect the idea of it though, so that's good, right? Oh man. On the bus to Antalya, the woman next to be was viscous with sick. Her fluids seeped into me and I partook in a Turkish flu. Feverish, headache, coughing. Spent our 2 days here relaxing on the cushions under the shade at Bayrams and swimming at the beach. A nice reprieve! The people were friendly, the free dinners delicious and the surroundings beautiful.
