... thick widows and very heavy doors. This museum did not allow coach parties and there was us and one other couple again with their two guides in attendance. Back to Old Muscat and the first Royal Palace, more grand buildings viewed from outside. The countryside here is mountainous and quite barren but further south becomes greener. Our driver was very keen to know if we had a good impression on Muscat and its people. he came from Niswa, which is in the mountains ...
Muscat, Oman geoffbidWalking around the neighborhood of the hotel last night, we came across some examples of our country's finest exports (see photos). I've now found our best restaurants in so many places around the world, I'm surprised I still get shocked at seeing these chains outside the US. Food here in Oman reminds me of what Shira and I saw in Dubai last year. There really isn't anything available at restaurants that can be considered local dishes. Everything seems a blend of Indian ...
Muscat, Oman jfontanieu... one of the most modern showcases in the Middle East/Gulf Regions today! " Seeing is believing " and you will know why I say this when you travel to Muscat, Oman and to Dubai, UAR. My Chronicles continue .... . Muscat, Oman flemingac... feel in love with the daughter of a Hindu supplier, who refused the match. However he prepared for the wedding and convinced the commander that the fort's supplies needed a overhaul. Instead of replacing grain and gunpowder, he allowed Imam Sultan bin Saif to takeover the defenseless fort in 1649 and the Portuguese soon left Muscat. A spot of lunch at the famous D'arcy's Kitchen and a wander along the beach ...
Muscat, Oman raniroo... it to identify it - golden coffee pots, Sinbad's treasure chest, leaping dolphins, a sailing ship on a fountain of water etc. The river in Wadi Mayh had very little water in it, but as we progressed we realized that the broken old road hadn't been abandoned in favour of the new one we were traveling - it had been totally trashed by a flood in the wadi. Quite sobering to see the result of the power of water in a confined space. What had been a 6 lane highway was ...
Muscat, Oman suesy6652... very confused when cab drivers kept asking us if we wanted a ride to Egypt. As far as we were concerned that was like a whole other country and therefore very far away. We had a few hours to kill and we could have gone swimming or out on a boat or something like that. However after the bumpy bus ride I was back to feeling bad again. We ended up sitting for about 4 hours in an air-conditioned McDonalds to cool down and to hydrate ourselves. A happy meal ...
Muscat, Oman dresdenfae... Cd's of pictures into shutterfly and see how that works. As soon as we leave one country we will send in the pictures which should take max 2 weeks for them to get there and get uploaded. Sorry for the delay but I'm sure it will be better than us sitting at the computer for 10 hours each time we try to put some up. That sucks! So Oman was incredible! It was everything it claimed to be and then some. Jess's mom Tina met us at the airport last Thursday. She is so much ...
Muscat, Oman aclocke... the eggs. We actually saw a bunch of baby turtles just hatched from the eggs, you know what, these babies always follow sun/light (In morning Sun rises in the east and this is the direction to sea, so good for them). So when the ranger put torch towards sea all babies started crawling towards it and when he put light in opposite direction towards beach, the babies actually tumbled and took reverse turn again towards the light...HOO, after such good informative section we went ...
