Roatan, Honduras

... although it's warm again. We went ashore and hired a taxi driver who was take us to a resort that was more sheltered - but they were very quiet and had no snorkeling gear. He then drove us to West End where we got to snorkel. Again - it was quiet rough, there was a lot of sand in sections of the water but there was still some coral and a number of fish - fine for us. Managed to see a ...

... Delta both fly here directly from the US for under $400. Our time here has been a fantastic and relaxing way to end our trip, and has provided ample opportunity to start getting excited about returning home. I am really looking forward to everyday regular things like: playing with my dog, using the phone to call people whenever we want, seeing our friends and family, drinking tap water, not taking malaria pills or applying bug spray every day, using a hair dryer, cooking meals (well ...

... water course and I'm a little worried that ill be stuck here for many months, completing my Dive Master Course and possibly continuing on to be an Instructor. DIVING IS UNREAL! The island is great. A energetic bunch of travelers keep the place alive. Parties every night, Caribbean sea at your doorstep, the second largest coral reef in the world right there. Can it get any better¿ Its been 6 days on this island now and I have completed my Scuba ...

Finding Nemo at the Bay Islands

... time to just swim along the coral reef for 30 minutes or so to take it all in. The same coral reef that we snorkeled over in Belize runs down the side of the Bay Islands so there was some truly fantastic coral and fish to see and the visibility is fantastic. We swam over a coral wall where the drop was over 1000 feet, you got the sensation you were going to fall when you went over the side. The water was so clear. We ...

Diving (or trying to!) in the Bay Islands

... room next door to us. Frank and I ended up leaving after 2 nights, though, and splurging for a bigger better place. Chillies was in a great location on the beach, but was pretty run down. They only had cold water showers. And during the day, when the electricty was out (read more later about this) the toilets would not flush. That makes for a rather disgusting bathroom by the end of the day... Nights 3 through 5, we stayed in a private room at ...

Diving!

Two days of traveling brought us to Utila, Honduras, one of the Bay Islands, famous for its cheap diving courses. Today (wednesday) we start with the theory, tomorrow more theory and diving skills in shallow water, on day three we ll be diving twice to 12 meters and on day four twice to 18 meters to finish our course. Day five will be two fun dives. All of this together with free accomodation goes for 240 dollars, or 200 euros. I can't compare, but it seems like a very good price!

... high for what we got. Food is mediocre at best. Alcohol is cheap enough but food wasn't. Having said that, there are a few decent places, the Bamboo Lodge is a nice little place, so was Cannibals, a little Mexican restaurant. And if you have a car (which we did one day after paying a guy $50 to "rent" his personal pickup that took about 15 minutes to start every time) there's an awesome place aptly called The View which was great, I think American- run ...

Time to bring on the Caribbean

... forgot the signal for no air (missed that one in the reading I guess) before finally gasping up some precious oxygen into my grateful lungs...and so it goes on. I realise the need to practice these skills but man it was one skill after the next and it was like doing a PY exam only it was taking place about 10 meteres underwater. Trying to establish bouyancy underwater was not my speciality (resembled more a pogo stick underwtaer at first), nor balancing on my ...

La Ceiba and Utila, the Bay Islands *****

LA CEIBA, Honduras-very globalized...pretty sure that there was a Maccie Ds..BurgerKing and every other "chip shop" there, massive shopping mall but just couldn`t find a Maccie Ds for my photo..think gonna have to start off on BurgerKing now,. La Ceiba was spose to be our launching point for the Bay Islands but we ended up having to stay a night in it cos of rain...hence no boat to the island of Utila. Nice place, dirty and polluted but quite spirited. UTILA; THE BAY ISLANDS ...

... down and do a few tricks. Overall, it was pretty fun but I don't think I'd do it again, unless it was in Costa Rica. It sounds like it's much better over there. Hit the beach after - ****** weather. Cloudy, windy, and actually a little bit chilly. We picked up some cheap beer before going to the beach. Beer and bananas stolen from the breakfast buffet ... our lunch of choice while ashore on the cruise! Got in a little bit of Spanish practice with Kenny ...
