Belgrade, Serbia poslovi... defines all that is backpacking. There are no plans, no places to be, no buses that can't be missed, and nothing that is set in stone. Things are driven by spontenaiety and randomness, two words that define this way of travel. The only thing important is the people you meet, and the times you share. You might meet them again at some later point in your life, but you never count on it. You make sure that every day you spend with them is the last you're going to see them, and soon you ...
Belgrade, Serbia dhruvk... Its very hot outside. Then a tremendous thunderstorm and torrential rain rips through for a couple of hours. Finally I'm able to go for a walk and walk past Boshac and return to the hostel feeling tired again. Its clear that i've got / had some sort of bug. I'll need to be a bit fitter before I leave. Looks like I'll be here another day. The hostel is full of serbian workers; possibly building workers so its a bit strange.
Belgrade, Serbia i_could_walk... way our driver totally dominates and bullies a Serbian bus driver into giving way to her people carrier; we do U turns and switch lanes like its the dodgems. I try not to shout when a bus appears 3 inches dehind the drivers door but its a Zen exercise and she will have seen it in her mirrors. Surely. The Sava Centre turns out to retail inflatable boats and be a large concert hall. It looks like a 1970's pyramid construction somewhere beneath the nicotine. The hall ...
Belgrade, Serbia i_could_walk... down at my big bottle of Jelen Pivo. "And no beer on the train". You *******. (I reckon he only said that because I was foreign, the first time I was in Serbia I brought a six-pack of lager on the train- which me and my Serb mates quickly demolished) The "train" copper and his two idiot mates when left me alone to exchange bewildered looks with the Montenegrins I was sharing a compartment with. It seems that, in Serbia, it takes three armed men ...
Belgrade, Serbia englishanddrunk... streetcars to get there. Nice guy; I'd absolutely never get that in northern Germany. As we land in Belgrade, my first impression is that the airport is very modern; until I notice a farm tractor being used as a luggage puller. I make it through customs just fine. As Nikoli and I are leaving the airport, his father greats him and they offer to give me a ride to my hostel! I accept, they are both very sincere, nice people, so I climb into a twenty year old, crazy ...
Belgrade, Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro dabassisstThe primary goal for today was to get from Istanbul to Sarajevo. There are no cheap direct flights so we flew with JAT, the Serbian airline, via Belgrade. This involved a seven hour wait between flights. First things first. We needed to return the car, which meant finding a petrol station between the hotel and the airport, then calling the rental company and arranging to meet them outside the International Departures. We had a wipeout on all fronts. First, there is no petrol station ...
Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro guykbSo I just left Belgrad and am now on a bus to Valjevo. Anita's friend Marijana met me at the airport and took me to the bus station in town and then helped me buy a ticket and saw me off. It was very nice of her to take time out of her one day off and come take care of me. It is so hot and the bus has no A/C. SO begins my adventure ... On first impression, Belgrad looks like any other city, except the apartment buildings are a bit more of ...
Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro graceonthego... m going to do. Two more canadians on the road, one of which was a quebequois, really made the trip. Kara is doing a masters in Australia, which is something I'm thinking about doing myself. Joel, the absolute craziest guy I've ever met, was one of those ballz out all the time guys that are absolutely a blast to hang out with. Funny guy. Texan named Bay-wolf (my nickname for him) coined two brilliant words, the CBR (Casual Boyfriend Reference) and DUFF (Designated ...
