Hotel was right across the road from the main train station. Very clean and rooms were great. It wouldn't hurt the staff to smile but other than that a convenient and comfortable stay

Our vacation starts

Getting up at 3:00 am is not nice, but the highway to the airport was empty. Checking in with Air Berlin was a new experience, but not quite positively. All information that we had keyed in for the online check in was irrelevant, we had to give them the complete information again. So we parked on the street and stressed about getting a ticket (no, thankfully). Trains were comfortable, clean and convenient, and ran ...

Ivonne and Christiaen Bluecher's house is in the municipality of Henstedt-Ulzburg (pop. 28,000) within the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Their house is about a 30-minute drive north of ...

Hamburg - Day 1

The alarm went off at 7:30 and we repacked everything into the "correct" panniers and rack packs. We left the hotel to walk into Hamburg and soon found a place to have coffee and some pastries for breakfast. We then continued on towards the river Elbe and found the upper path and walked alongside the river. It was cloudy and quite chilly with a cold wind and we were glad that we had put on virtually all of our non-biking clothes! Hamburg is a large port and there ...

... heading west to Wurtsburg, where they will pick up the Romantic Road to Munich, cycling through Franconia, Swabia and Upper Bavaria.

The Romantic Road route is described as running mainly through gently undulating countryside, first along the Rivers Tauber & Wörnitz before it crosses the Danube and heads south. Apart from a few hilly sections, most of the route is characterised by gentle climbs, well-made cycle tracks ...
