Started our trek back to where we started late morning, the Don pinched a bike from the hire place before they opened to go up to the store for some breakfast supplies. Two very large white wolves were sleeping by the fence when we went over to take a closer look. They completely didn't care that we were there.

The German cleanliness ethic was on display as we drove down several residential streets in Merzig. FIrst, we saw a woman with her broom ...

... charts and books and found a telephone number and spoke to someone and hoped they understood what she meant. When John came back on board he decided to talk to a different number as belt and braces saying the lock number and kaput! A VNF man turned up – hooray - and he tried everything but still couldn’t get it to work. He had no lights, single red and double red but no green at all and the gates stayed shut. He helped us tie up to the other side to wait ...
