Onto Hong Kong

Wow - Hong Kong is amazing. Undescribable beauty, opulence, and people. I can truly say it is one of the most amazing places I have been. The city is a mix of extremes, the buildings are mostly highrises, most of them very flashy. The Banks, and financial company buildings are probably the nicest. Then there are the Hotels and the Apartment buil...

Arrivals

After a three course dinner and red wine in the Qantas first class lounge we finally boarded QF29 to Hong Kong, climbed into our beds and slept, waking just in time for breakfast and landing in Hong Kong. You have to love first class - three cheers for frequent flyer points.

Caught the efficient train service from the airport to Hong Kon...

HongKong, Central and the Peak

Slept in a little, and enjoyed a lovely delicious breakfast with some of the best croissants that I have ahd in a long time. The view from the lounge is fabulous, out over the bay. It was to be the clearest view I would have of all my time here. Made my way out through HK Park, which was a lovely park just down the street fromt he hotel. Then on...

Honkong Shopping and Kowloon - National Day

Decided today would be more of a shopping day, so I headed out for Causeway Bay, one of the places that all of Tania's colleagues recommended. When I got off the subway and came above ground, it reminded me a bit of Times Square in New York, as it relates to its layout, but it is all about getting people to shop! There was a huge number of peopl...

Last day in Hong Kong

Today is my last full day in HK. I got on the bus to go to Stanley on the south side of the Island. The bus ride was over the hills, on a narrow twisty road, passing very large homes and small private condo buildings. The market was full of cute, but tourist oriented items. I bought a red, oriental inspired linen shirt, and a string of dark pear...

Day 23: Hong Kong

OK - having had a wonderful time in Australia and huge thanks and best wishes to my friends Mark an Monique I am now slowly making my way back home to the UK. But before I do a very quick stop in Hong Kong. Never been here before so not quite sure what to expect. My initial reaction was that the place is not quite as chilled as Singapore - funny...

Thanksgiving Day or who has my luggage?

We are on the 43rd floor of the Conrad Hotel in Hong Kong. The hotel is a flagship for the entire Hilton chain. Thanks to my Hilton Honors points Ginger and I are staying for free. We have a great view of downtown Hong Kong and the harbor. There is no way that we would ever pay for this hotel but this is my reward for working. It sounds like eve...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Conrad Hong Kong Hotel

One of the 3 Stooges

from curry69curry
The Conrad Hotel is one of the three 5-star hotels situated above the upscale Pacific Place Shopping Mall. In my opinion, the Conrad is on par with the JW Marriott, while the Shangri-La Hotel is one step above (Shangri-La just went through recent rennovations).

I've stayed at both the Executive Floors & the "other" lower floors, the difference being the Executive Lounge provides small meals during different times of the day. The rooms in gereral are clean, with nice view of the harbor, hills or the city. But if you'd like the "harbor view" rooms, don't be disappointed if you ended up with a partial view, since the JW Marrott Hotel blocked most of it.

The lobby is the signiture "landmark" of the Conrad, with elegant hand painted columns, spacious sitting/reception areas, oversized stairways and floor to ceiling view windows. During major festivals (Chinese New Year & Christmas), the lobby decor provides good photo opportunities.

If you stay for a few days at the Conrad, you'll definitely get spoiled because it's so convenient to all the shopping, good food (high end cusine restaurants down to McDonald's), not to mention the thoughtfully appointed nice & clean guest rooms, and the excellent trained hotel staff.

Fabulous Service

from kaneblack1
As a very frequent traveler and a regular guest at many of the worlds top hotels (more than 70 nights per year) this is my favorite hotel. I have stayed in all of the 5 star hotels in Hong Kong (except the Peninsula and the Grand Hyatt) and every single month I love coming home to the Conrad Hong Kong. The location is first class with the fabulous Pacific Place shopping Mall located directly under the hotel, the Admiralty MTR (Subway) below the hotel and it is a mere 10 minute walk to Central. The hotel has two of Hong Kong's best restaurants, and the rooms are very comfortable and elegant with superb views of HK (I think the rooms begin on level 44 and go up to 61). However, what makes this hotel so special is the service, all of the staff make an effort to know your name and know your personal preferences and they just go out of their way to make your stay a great one. i would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Also try a relaxing dinner by the pool overlooking the city lights with a nice bottle of wine... its a great way to unwind after a busy day.

Great hotel, but second place within that square mile...

Stayed at the Conrad Hong Kong for 1 month during April 2005.

This is a classic hotel with classic decor, and the facilities/amenities reflect this style. Simply put, the non-electric parts of the room/hotel are very nice, while the electrical parts are not so nice. Beds are very comfortable, and so are the rest of the furnishings. Pillow menu is a thoughtful touch. Linens and towels are top-notch. Love the bathroom - big, marbled and a separate small room for the toilet. However, the 'classic' theme also applies to the TV/audio, which are decidely old-school. Pool is small but very nice, as you get the sense of swimming among skyscrapers (you are actually).

Conrad has some of the finest restaurants in HK, but for some reason, the room service was not all that impressive. Service is top class, but not without some small annoyances. Example, they kept on leaving things on top of the sheets, like little bears, laundry bags, breakfast menus, which I had to remove on a daily basis. Another example is the housekeeping that does not throw anything away in your room, no matter how dirty it is (i.e. a paper cup containing nothing but grape skins & seeds was dutifully kept, with a paper lid on it for good measure). But any misteps are made in an effort to please, so no matter.

Only thing that keeps me from an unreserved recommendation of the Conrad is the fact that there is an identical looking hotel right next door (Island Shangri-la) that seems to be slightly better in all aspects.

Lives up to the Conrad Name

from kolowalu
I consider the Conrad Hong Kong one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at in 40 years of business and leisure travel. From the moment I arrived until I departed 5 days later I felt that the hotel staff did everyhting possible to make my stay memorable. The guest rooms are spacious and well appointed. The room even had a Bose Wave Radio/CD Player with remote. A couch with ottoman added a nice touch when I wanted to relax and read. Internet access via broadband can be purchased at a reasonable cost. I was able to find a nearby signal to use wi-fi at no cost. The hotel food is first class and the range of restaurants and lounges gives numerous options without leaving the hotel. If you decide to leave you can take the elevator to an entrance to a mega-mall (including a full service Marks and Spencer department store), access the rapid transit system, or take a leisurely walk to downtown or the harbor. Across the street is the famous Hong Kong Park in which you can stroll to the Peak Tram entrance. The Conrad is a great place to stay.

Loved the 'pillow menu'

from CByrne
What a great experience ! Our harbour facing room was fantastic..awesome view. Service excellent..room service arrived complete with candles and flowers and everyone has a smile for you. There is even a 'pillow menu' which will allow you to select your preference ! Location is great if you are OK with a 10 minute stroll into town, and also handy for the peak tram. Staff could not do enough for you and towels were refreshed / bathroom cleaned twice a day.

We had a fabulous trip and this hotel contributed to it. They have followed up on our visit one month later asking for our opinions.

Good hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
nice location (not as crowded as the rest of the city) with Pacific Place right below it; room up to standard but could use some updating, especially the bathroom which is showing some wear and tear. Room size is satisfactory; view from the room very impressive even if it's not facing the harbor. Breakfast buffet okay, with good variety (Chinese, Western and Japanese) but of course you can get much better quality Chinese food and cheaper (Maxim's Jade Garden in Causeway Bay across from what used to be the Lee Theatre:great dim sum) somewhere else in the city. Subway station is directly below Pacific Place, so you can get to anywhere in HK quite easily from the hotel; and taxis are readily available and relatively cheap. Bigger room/bathroom size than the JW Marriott which is next door; but I would have to say Marriott has a better spa location with direct access from the elevator, whereas you'll have to walk through part of the cafe to get to the Conrad gym/spa from the hotel elevator. I haven't stayed at the Island Shangri-la which is also next door but is undergoing renovations.

Exceptionally well-run world-class hotel

from PA88
I've stayed here 3 times and it is like returning home. The staff greets you by name and are unfailingly polite, helpful and efficient. The rooms are tastefully furnished, clean and quiet. The bathrooms are large with marble surfaces and separate shower using top-of-the-line chrome fixtures. The breakfast buffet is a gourmet extravaganza, with Chinese, Japanese and other exotic choices along with the usual western items. Unlike many other Hong Kong hotels (or the city itself!), which are a rushed frenzy, this hotel has an atmosphere of quiet elegance. I think the formal afternoon tea is better than the Peninsula's. The hotel is located atop Pacific Place, a large enclosed shopping mall with high-end stores and boutiques including movie theaters and a Japanese department store with food court. The subway is across the street accessed by an enclosed pedestrian over-crossing. Nearby is Hong Kong Park with its large bird atrium, ponds and where you can watch oldies doing their tai chi in the mornings. The Peak Tram is a block away on the other side of the Park.

Excellent Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
stayed at the conrad for a week - best stay ever. great location with excellent shops just below the hotel. Had two rooms next to each other and had a connecting door...rooms were an excellent size with great views of hong kong. Staff were extremely helpful and the interior hotel has been finished to an excellent standard. I have and would return to the conrad again as my stays there simply get better and better.

Wonderful Hotel

from Pat_B_8
My family and I stayed at the Conrad for a week this past July. What a beautiful hotel! First of all, the location is perfect. It is located on top of the Pacific Place, where there are lots of different restaurants and great shopping. You can access the subway from Pacific Place, so getting around is a snap. There are also a number of attractions such as the Peak, and Hong Kong Park all within easy walking distance.

The hotel staff are friendly, courteous, and very helpful. Anytime we called down for something, they were at our door within minutes.

The rooms are spacious, luxurious, and quiet. We got a great internet rate, so we stayed at this 5 star hotel for a 3 star price.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Location, convenience, and luxury. What more can I say.
