Last bit of Sunshine

... eight days, I relaxed by the pool, made lunch and read some books. After all, I had earned it after months of travel and exploring. I still felt completed to see something of the area, so I went downtown to the main avenue in Playa. The beach was beautiful, with sand that can only be described as powdered sugar. The main avenue was not really what I wanted at this point of my trip, lots of bars with drunken tourists at 10am, and shops selling tack for ridiculous ...

... is cheap. There are some nasty hurricanes in the area, close enough to literally rain on our parade every day so far but not close enough to cause us any major problems unlike elsewhere in the country. About 6kms from Playa is a place called Xplor. It is a park built underground and was unbelievably amazing!!! So much to do while exploring these caves and natural wonders. We went on a two person raft and paddled (using little hand paddles) our way crystal clear waters framed by stalactites and stalagmites. ...

Final port of call. Because we had been here before, we chose an excursion that took us to Playa del Carmen on the mainland rather than an excursion on Cozumel. Even though it has been 30 years since we had been here, we probably wouldn't have recognized it. On to more Mayan culture. We had to be off the ship by 7am (UGH!). We were herded onto a 456 passenger boat for a 45-minute ride ...
