42 Ferny Ave Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, 4217, 61-7-5539-0444
We spent the first night wandering around Surfers Paradise and realised we wouldn't want to spend too much longer in the area. It seemed to be the drinking capital for teens and surfers. For the 3 days we spent in Surfers Paradise we spent it outside the area going to Lamington National Park for a few days and Seaworld for a day. Lamington National park...spotted a very large snake in a tree just next to the walking track. Luckily it was still there when we walked back past it! There were som...
Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia catandtimToday was time for our final visit to a theme/amusement park for the trip, the 4th individual park we have visited during our 2 week trip. In a bid to save money and enjoy greater flexibility in choosing when to travel we decided to give the regular Surfside bus a try instead of arranging transfers to Movie World as we had done previously. There were so many people at the bus stop that we only got on the 3rd bus that came past, at least they come every 10 minutes or less so it wasn't too bad....
Gold Coast, Australia v1213Flying south from Hong Kong was a pleasant experience, featuring a beautiful airborne sunrise, some mediocre movies and a little sleep. The flight made it into Brisbane a tad late but this just helped us get through Customs and Quarantine faster because it meant there was a longer period of time between our flight and the one that had arrived previously. The AQIS and Customs staff must've been bored already because I received a few comments along the lines of "I hope you've declared that anim...
Brisbane, Australia v1213Both Belinda and I struggled getting out of bed early after the evening with Lid and John but we had a transfer to the station to catch so we had no choice. We shoved the remainder of cereal down our throats and stuffed our bags for one last day of fun, making it down to the foyer just as the transfer bus was starting to wonder if we were going to be late. On our last trip the driver was very talkative but in contrast this driver was silent, it was the annoying American that was picked up bef...
Brisbane, Australia v1213We headed off to Surfers Paradise in the hope that the weather would improve and by the time we arrived at surfers it was sunny enough to have lunch on the beach. Surfer's Paradise may only be 2 hours drive from Byron Bay but it might as well be a million miles away. It is basically a mini-Vegas-on-sea with tower block after tower block overlooking the gorgeous Gold coast. It also seemed very popular with Asian tourists for the gambling and most places even had signs in both English and Chine...

... wine later it finally returned to normal! Had another stroll on the beach - gorgeous! Then all hit the sack. (or so we thought!) Yep you guessed it - another hot hot night where no sleep was had by Laurie & Joy.....Colm on the other hand slept and snored his head off much to the digust of us! Lazy Fecker! So 4am we hit the beach - our legs so weak could barely walk due to lack of sleep!! Nowhere else to go, we had to head back to the Sauna and check ourselves ...
Surfers Paradise, Australia flojoy... was out of operation as it was slightly raining and the track it runs on has to be dry. Not a good start to the day (boys are getting a bit toey/annoyed as are we) but I suggested to people there that lets all go to Cyclone and we can have a few rides of the roller coaster that has a complete corkscrew loop and followed up by a complete loop (both go through 360deg loop so you are completely upside down at top of loop). This worked out great as we ...
Dreamworld, Australia georgeescape... and various other species, but the koalas and kangaroos were definitely our favourites. The koalas didn't do much other than sleep but were very cute, and we fed the kangaroos. It was so hot and they're so used to being fed that most of them didn't even bother to stand up, just looked at us as if to say "if you want to feed me and take a photo you better come over here 'cos I'm not moving!". We did however also see a mum with a joey in her pouch which was ...
Brisbane, Australia drpymmOn to Brisbane and started with a tour of the Castlemaine XXXX brewery, Queensland's number 1 beer. Apparently Australians wouldn't give a XXXX for anything else. Found out why it's called XXXX - it used to be the mark of the quality of the beer (they started making XXX). The tour was all very interesting but everybody was really waiting to get to the private bar where free beers were on offer and you got to try all the different ales they have ...
Brisbane, Australia nickandmilly... section for a while, but eventually sorted myself out with the cunning use of map. And on my way out of the fern house a kid was staring at me, then told his mother that he'd seen me before-twice! I cracked a big old smile as I left. I got alllll the way over to the Australia section, and told myself as long as I left by 3:00 I'd be okay to get back for the last bus at 4:15 (I had no idea how long it would take to get to the other side of the park). Around 1:45 I started ...
