We were ready, but the Swiss weren't! The most memorable part of the journey was not the beautiful scenery, the picture postcard lakeside villages, the mountains, or the waterfalls. Instead, it was the 2 hour queue waiting to get through the 17km Gotthard-Strassentunnel on the A2. That meant our planned stop in Lucerne was abandoned, and we got to Strasbourg at about 9pm. We woke at a reasonable hour and had breakfast at the hotel. The boys enjoy the idea of getting their own breakfast and the buffet concept!! When we were ready we walked down to the lake and got the 10.25am ferry to Bellagio. It was a 2 hour 20 minute trip that zig zagged across the lake to all the beautiful towns that sit along the waterline. It was a glorious, sunny day and Geoff and I enjoyed soaking up the rays on the back of ...

... of silk. Como has produced 80% of Italy's silk since silk worms were first introduced in the 14thC. The fact that mulberry trees grew abundantly in nearby regions was a distinct advantage. We suspect that the museum is temperature and probably humidity controlled. To good effect. A display of silkworm breeding, somewhat more complex than the mulberry leaves into a shoe box of my youth. The equipment required for all stages of ...
