... friendly with a number of the impressionist artists of the day and would sometimes trade out meals or rooms for a piece of art. The rooming arrangements grew; the restaurant grew and the art collection is amazing. We asked for a table next to the sculpture of the huge thumb because we have a picture of ourselves sitting beside it for the first visit. Turns out the thumb is ...

A complete lazy day by the pool today. Joe went to the shops to buy some sunscreen while I chilled listening to music on my iPad. Went up to the room for a mid afternoon snooze then headed out from the hotel at 4.30 to go around the shops. We saw people going UP and I can't imagine it! Once at the train station we couldn't find the office to buy the ticket so we went into the adjacent Tourist Information and she told us to use the machines. As we walked away she asked us where we were going and then said there was a problem with the trains ...

... I saw here and the ones back in Canada.

The boutiques in old Nice are a different story. They are what we imagine of France. Even in the rain, you can be charmed by their vintage products, exclusivity and quality. I saw boutiques selling everything from soaps, flowers, spices, kitchen appliances, clothes, jewellery and much more. Many stores were closed and when I inquired if it was because of their lunch time break, a store owner ...
