... night stopping here for ice cream, there for a quick drink, over there for a few dances. It was fun, but we were all tired from the day so we walked back at about 4am (I'll explain "Spanish Time" in my next entry).
That night, LIzzy and I had opted for the sleeping mats laid out on the Terrace (all the hammocks were occupied), which was fine because 1) I woke up with zero bug bites, and 2) I woke up next to a gorgeous German guy on the mat next ...
... and Cameron Diaz in it. I hope they get a part! Lunch was interesting and kind of like eating in a Chinese restaurant as the plates just kept coming! After lunch we said goodbye to the sons and continued walking and finally ended up back at the ship but not before taking a rest in the Plaza DE Espana across from the ship. When we were there the park cat ladies came by and fed the wild cats who were pretty friendly. Great ending to a very nice day!
Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands mamafeathersToday was the second and last excursion we did through Holland America. Jacqui had wanted to see the Andalusian horse show, and we could also get in a sherry tasting with it!
First off was the tour of the Gonzales Byass winery. I'm not a big fan of the normal sherries, but I love the sweet sherries. And it was cheap. I got a ...
... the way we stopped in Olvera so Mike could get his photo of the village and church tower. We arrived to Nerja very late and couldn't plug in the address in our handy-dandy gps - so we had to call the owner in the UK to give us directions. it was kind of late by the time we got to the house (after midnight). ugh! this was a long, long day! But, we're excited to be at the beach for the next 7 days. Shae can't wait to get her feet wet in the mediterranean.
We decided today we would stay in the area and just go driving. We wanted to check out some wineries and take a cave tour. But we didn't get a chance to do either one. The cave tours were 5 hours long. The caves are amazing but not sure Shae would be able to hang that long. my guess is not. And we drove and drove and didn't find one winery. I think we got close one time. But anyway the ride was beautiful and there was a great restaurant in a white village ...
Montejaque, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands stacicheck... He loved it! Shae and I did a hike which was beautiful. These mountains are massive. We saw a couple of riders and thought of Bob. I'm sure the Spaniards train here for the tour. They are so steep and it's crazy climbing. Bob would have loved it! We drove around the area and then headed back to a town called Olvera where mike saw another great shot he wanted to take, but unfortunately we arrived after magic time so ...
Grazalema, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands stacicheck... Spain. It´s actually a very strange peninsula, practically an island, very touristy, but muy bonito. There´s a nice castle/fort kinda thing, then an amazing Cathedral called Torre de Poiente which we climbed up for a spectular view of the city. Some more Tapas for lunch, a walk along the beach, watched the sunset with an ice-cream, then it was time to drive back Seville. A nice day all round. :-)
Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands gary_cailin... rondhangen int oude gedeelte.
Cádiz, Spain verow... trip is 2 hours because it's a low cost regional train, so there are quite a few stops along the way. Added to that is the fact that Cadiz is nearly and island so you have to approach it from the other side by train. The history lesson in the lonely planet says that Cadiz is thought to be the first city founded in Europe, probably by the Phoenicians around 1100BC. The old city is ...
Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands ditchthecube... At this point, I´m completely out of it--totally delerious from sleep still.... I go to my door and open it, and my roommate´s standing there... "Did you see it?? Go look out the window!" I look off my balcony to see this....throng of people....surrounding this giant.... Finally coming to my senses, I see that it´s some sort of funeral procession, they were carrying this GIANT coffin, like, a nice ...
