Patagonia, Aussies and an English girl

... on top of the bus and I have a panoramic view of our Patagonia trek. Stoked! To make it even better they play a half-way decent movie. The Game Plan with the Rock! (yes muy queso but so adorable) AND they serve us coffee and alfajors! This ride is looking to be fantastic.

We make our way up the coast to Comodoro Rivadavia. As the sun is setting the color pink in the sky against the Atlantic ocean is making my day. I watch the waves crash on to ...

The Real Argentina -- RN3 Atlantic Highway

The road from Calafate through Rio Gallegos onto Comodoro Rivadavia is mostly dry desert. Empty, windy and lifeless. This is Patagonia Argentina at its wildest. The overnight bus was full of backpackers going from Calafate to the lake district of Bariloche. We are the only ones got off in Comodoro Rivadavia, a small city known for its offshore oil ...

Getting Warmer

January 22nd As we left Esquel this morning the sun shone directly into our faces making the pot holes difficult to identify and avoid. The air is getting more crisp as we continue driving South. We took our time getting to Comodor Rivadavia passing several lakes, watching eagles stalk their prey and landing with a meal on ...

Mendoza to Bariloche

Hello hello again, the period seems to be getting longer and longer between each blogs, which can only mean one thing of course! Hope all is well? I´ve been busy gathering pace on the road recently, enjoying the red wines in Mendoza and climbing and trekking in Bariloche.. I arrived in Mendoza after a long journey from BA, went straight to the hostel Arida had recommended and the bloody thing was closed. I thought, here we go again ...

From Ushuaia to Comodore Rivadiva

Now heading up the east coast, the atlantic coast. Driving back out of Terra del Fuego the same way i came in and crossing back into argentina near Rio Gallegos, a pretty big town. On the way there is a laguna verde, a volcano crater to see. Heading north there isnt much inspiring landscape. Puerto san julian is quite nice. So is caleta olivia. Comodore rivadiva is a big and busy town.

Day 191: February 22, 2008 Esquel to Comodoro

... crosses semiarid pampas but eventually reaches a long stretch where the Río Chubut incised a broad canyon through more than 100 m of very gently folded strata of the Santa Cruz Formation. The place has definite magnetostratigraphy potential. The high cliffs are occasionally cut by quebradas that appear to go all the way to the top, providing access to the complete section. They reminded me of the strata exposed along the Oregon ...

From Comodoro Rivadavia to the North

... de Folklore y Doma" (music and horse riding similar to the Rodeo we went to in Chile). This is a specifically local fiesta with very few tourists so a good way of absorbing the local atmosphere and culture. - Coffee is actually quite good in Argentina...none of the Nescafe stuff they served in Chile (everywhere). - Buildings are mostly built with brick and cement - similar to European construction. There are not too many wooden buildings or shacks as we saw in Chile.

Comodor Rivadavia to Sarmiento, Chubut - Argentina

... hour bus ride. Given Comodoro´s main attraction is the "Museum of Petroleum" you can gather that the city had little to offer! Another 100 year old town that has recently started growing strongly due to petroleum and gas... Sarmiento is similar in structure but has more to offer nature wise: - The Paleonthologic Park, basically life size copies of all the dinosaurs found in the area - The Stone Forrest (see tomorrows ...

Day 166: January 28, 2008 Playa Alsina to Playa Bo

... in the afternoon, deciding to approach it from the north since there was an old roadbed that climbed through the roadcut and provided access to the upper part of the steep, newer face. The section is a little thicker from the south, at the base, so if we have time, we'll pick that up at the end of drilling the north. It took awhile to learn how to drill these rocks but once Will got the hang of it, he was an awesome machine. He was able site in the next site ...

... kind of imagine the kind of desolate landscape that must be.

Anyways, I saw whales ****ing whales, penguins ****ing penguins, walruses snoring (and ****ing other walruses) and Julieta's ****** from every imaginable angle. I'll cut it short, because I'm a dreadful comedian: I did end up learning a good deal about biology on that trip ;)
