Who's idea was it to start a climbing road trip through the rockies in the middle of Fall????<br>Oh, yes... it was ours.... We managed to get to st. George UT, home of the Red Hills. We got here monday at noon, and climbed some on Prophesy wall (usually used for multi-pitching, but we used the first pitch as a sports climb route ...
St. George, Utah, United States scher-air... scared?? Haha! Bimbo! I have since discovered that "petrified" means that something has hardened into stone over time.<br> <br>We got to walk on the rocks, and also climb them, so it was really nice and fun. Unfortunately, the two little pools of water normally seen in the photos were dry, so no nice photos :-(<br>
Snow Canyon State Park, Utah, United States zwergliazrael... there are a couple we won't recommend but not this one. It is so cool to be down amongst the hoodoos and everywhere you look there are shapes that capture the imagination. If you are wondering of a place to head in the USA this area has a lot to offer. It isn't hard to get to Yellowstone or Vegas also. Definitely a great place although it would have been better for us to base ourselves at the different canyon parks instead of driving back to Hurricane every night.
Hurricane, Utah, United States usa2009aswm... coming very close to the mountain peak that still sports the coat of snow that I have been watching from the RV. It was only when we got onto the backside of the mountains that we realized that it was 24 m. to St. George and that the rain had been much heavier yesterday on that side of the mountains than in the area where we are staying. Don got to discover and use all the four-wheel drive features of the Suzuki! Suffice it to say ...
Dixie National Forest, Utah, United States momadunc... three nights until some of the weekend visitors head home and the pressure is off the parks. Because Salt Lake City and northern Utah received a considerable amount of snow today, snowbirds are delaying the trip north adding to the congestion. The people we talked with really seem to be learning the ropes but were quite accommodating. Once we were set up we decided that ...
St. George, Utah, United States momadunc... sitting in the shade made the heat seem not so bad. The evening was spent at Benja - a truly EXCELLENT Thai restaurant that we'd been to last year when it had just been opened. We got served by Alex who looked after us last time (including finding a brown paper bag so we could take our unfinished wine bottle back to the hotel room). We had a wonderful meal and reckon it as one of our best restaurants in the whole of the USA. When we left the restaurant at 10pm it was still 103F !!!!
St George, Utah, United States marty_chrissie... with excitable American tourists that surged through the night to Las Vegas, then to another bus that doubled back and wound north into morning and into Utah. And finally to St George, Utah. I was dropped in a McDonald's carpark. St George is a very different place to Salt Lake city. the ride between the two is a gradual, percent by percent transition from the red deserts of the south to the grey stoney mountains of the north. In St George the heat was sweltering. On my ...
St. George, Utah, United States philiadThe big day has finally arrived! David and I set out this morning for the drive to San Diego to meet up with the cycling group. The weather has taken a turn, and rain and cold is forecast for Friday's launch from Dog Beach. The past few days have been a whirlwind of activity: family time, visiting with my CASA kids, packing, live interview on the local TV station, interview with the Spectrum reporter, checking and rechecking the bike, leaving David ...
St. George, Utah, United States kedd... a quick bite to eat and then headed back out on the road. Since the desert surprised us so much with unexpected breaks from the emptiness and dirt, such as Walnut Canyon and Flagstaff, we both wanted to see what else it had to offer. Looking at the map we could either head toward the Pacific Coast north of Los Angeles, or turn back east and head back toward Colorado. On one hand, everybody's heard how majestic and picturesque the Rocky ...
