First Major Battle of Mexican-American War
After the Siege of Fort Brown, a small skirmish between Mexican and American troops, the first major battle of the Mexican-American war took place not far from Fort Brown's location. The battle of Palo Alto was a first decisive American victory. For every american death, there were almost 14 mexican deaths. The Mexican-American War was caused by America's desire for Manifest Destiny, to push westward all ...

... the first leg of our trip to New Orleans. We plan to stay in Rosenburg, TX the first nite.
Update at 9:00 am Thurs morning - we heard on the news this morning that Houston area got hit pretty hard with a bad storm, and that there were tornados elsewhere in Texas. Nothing here ... good we didn't leave yesterday, as we will be just outside Houston tonite. You know how I feel about tornados.

Jan 24 - Birding & Nature Centre
We have only two days left at SPI before we leave for New Orleans. Lois had been to the Birding Centre before we came (Gil doesn't do "touristy stuff"), so Roger & I decided to go today before our time here is over.

... of cards for $1 (Lois says they already have 55 decks at home ... so now they have 59. lol). Since I have beat they boys twice now at Gil's Lambsy rummy game, he figures I must be marking the cards, hence the new decks. He's not taking it too well. ;o)
It was NFL playoff game day, so Gil & Roger were busy watching the games. Lots of trash talk going on between Gil & Roger. ...
Jan 21 - Adventure on the low seas
... Cost per person was $25 for 1.5 hrs. There were the three of us, Scarlet, and two other people who were Scarlet's friends. It was fantastic - when Scarlet and Rozie spotted dolphins, Scarlet called out to them and them came in close, sometimes right beside the boat. Rozie would bark at them and run back and forth on the boat. Adorable little guy. He would hang right off the side of the boat - Scarlet said he jumps in sometimes. ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Comfort Suites South Padre Island
The Breakfast Was The Best Part Of The Hotel
My Family and I arrived in South Padre 6/5/04 And we did arrive Early they had no where to store luggage for early arrivals, They Have 4 Floors And 4 Maids which is not enough Maids When You Have About 20 rooms on a Floor, so Therefore The Next Day Our room Didn't Get Cleaned Until 5PM! The Followning Day The Maid Didn't Clean The Room Until almost 3 I Went to the Front desk And Told The Manager and He Had To Call The maid and Have Her Clean Our room. We went Into The Laundry Room And It Was Dirty And Get This We Went Back to The Laundry Room The 2nd Day and it was Still dirty, People Threw Away Their Food in The Laundry Rooms And it had a Bad Smell, in the Rooms The Carpet had stains and the Rooms Kinda Smelled Musty. It Was awful and i did Complain and was Refunded for 1 night this hotel was not worth 130.00 A Night! I Will Never Stay There ever again!
Nice place for families
We stayed here after Memorial Day for 3 nights.
The hotel was clean, the staff was nice. We checked in at 4:30, but the room wasn't ready (the front desk guy apologized and lowered our rate a bit). A nice, hot breakfast makes a quick start to the day - just get downstairs early enough to make a waffle on the iron - yum. The breakfast area gets crowded later in the morning after 9 or so. The pool was nice, but who cares, since the beautiful gulf's green waters are only 100 yards away through their private walkway to the beach. I'd stay here again. We got the king 1-bedroom suite with the foldout couch for the kids. There aren't a lot of those, so reserve early.
Great place to stay and golf
Great location, helpful staff and very clean rooms. For the price, its a bargain.
Comfort Suites on Padre Island, Texas
My sister and I were in South Padre the week of Feb. 15th for 4 days of sun and Mexico. we always go in Feb. and stay in a condo, couldn't get what and where we wanted, so we chose to stay at Comfort Suites... every one was nice and courteous And VERY HELPFUL, the suite was clean and was ready when we got there. The breakfast was very good and a free newspaper. In fact it was so good we decided to stay over another day. Not what WE want in the summer, we couldn't see the water, but for what we went for this time, I have to say we got our money's worth. and we will probably do it again...
Loved the Island and Comfort Suites
We had a great time. Weather was perfect. Staff at hotel were helpful. A great deal for the money. Hotel was clean. Breakfast was awesome. Bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits, toast, cereal, waffles, juice every day. Pool area was nice and clean. Only drawback was not being able to see the beach. But the walkway to the beach wasn't really that far. We would defintely stay here again.
Good for the money, but not amazed.
The Comfort Suites are affordable and contain all the amenities...a very convenient private entrance to the beach was enjoyed..how ever-the front desk staff was unprofessional and at times un cordial to my group, I assumed because we were only 18 years old. When we asked foe extra pillows because the ones we had were paper thin we were told that we could not have any more, and after persistance we finally told that we would have to go get them ourtselves and that they could not be brought to our room. We were new to traveling to Padre and arrived a little early, but we were promptly informed that our room would not be cleaned any earlier to accomodate us. We had to wait in the lobby for 2 hours. If it was all I could afford I would stay again...but only on those conditions!
Enjoyed Our Stay
The Comfort Suites provide very relaxing and quiet lodging. The room was clean and large with a comfortable bed. The staff members of this motel are friendly and helpful. The private walkway offers access to a nice beach area. We enjoyed our stay!
Loved the Comfort Suites
I booked with very little notice for a weekend stay. The property was clean and the staff was most helpful. There was a walkway for the guests to use to get to the beach. The pool area was small, but kept clean. Breakfast, which was included in the price, consisted of bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits, gravy, pancakes or french toast, and cereal.
If you are considering a pricey condo, you may want to choose this property. The rooms are huge! The only thing that would make this property better would be if it had an ocean view!
What a fantastic stay!!
We had a really wonderful stay in this relatively new property! The room was extremely clean and well-kept. The staff was super friendly and helpful! We appreciated the ever-ready hot-breakfast! The pool exceeded our expectations!! This beats a condo because somebody else makes your bed and empties the trash for a change!! Try it! You will be equally pleased for the money!!
Nice place to stay. Quiet.
Very clean. Friendly staff. Great free hot breakfast.
