    ... Much worse.

After lunch in Cherokee, on the other side of the Smokies, we drove into North Carolina, our 12th state this trip. Late afternoon, we made it to Lulu's brother's house just outside Charlotte and then had dinner with him and his wife Lisa in Charlotte.

After dinner, we drove on for another half hour to Kannapolis.

We load up our entire lives in Spain and SECRETLY return to the US on Christmas Eve, rent a corporate apartment and get into Cornelius NC early Christmas morning <---- wow...that is sounding way easier than it actually was...but I am trying to summarize.

It was long and hard but it was a good day. I got my first flat tire! So that's big news. I was with a group of like ten other people and we were playing in the hay and I think my tired snagged a thorn or something. Mary, one of our group leaders, helped me change it. So that was a fun experience. We had a long lunch in the ...

... and Sam, two of our leaders, and their cheery selves and some good conversation made me feel much better, more alive and awake. We stopped to play on some hay bales before cruising into lunch around mile 40. By this time, I felt a lot better. I made another stop with Taylor, Annie, Lorraine, and Kim (an alumna) for a bathroom break and some scratch ...
