... a puff of air was sent through tubes to all 167 other clocks to make them move ahead one minute. So they only had to set this one clock and all the others would be in synch.

Got online to secure tickets for our crossing on the 19th but the noon crossing was all sold out. Now what to do. Going up north would take us to long and going south would involve the Windy City --Chicago, Us country folks don't like to deal with the kind of drivers in the larger cities. What to do ?

Leaving the capitol building, we headed south to Madison's other lake; Lake Monona. The lake is smaller than the northern lake, but there were still a few people out on the water. It was pretty warm walking around in the sun, so we headed back to the car to feed the meter and stop for a drink in the Rathskeller.
