... path from the kitchen to the main house became known as the whistling walk.

The Civil rights museum was distressing and moving and informative. We learned about the segretation that existed in Birmingham up until the mid seventies.

We stopped into a roasted peanut factory that is still roasting in machines that are over a century old. We ate peanuts fresh out of the roasters. The smell was amazing.

... the Fair, Birmingham put the statue on a 128 ft pedestal on a mountain east of Birmingham. When trying to look at a 57 foot statue that doesn't start until 128 feet up, it's hard to see much detail. They did put in stairs and a elevator to an observation platform close to the top of the pedestal, but that makes it even harder to see the statue, standing right below his feet!
