We woke up early to enjoy the beach and hoped to see dolphins but no luck. The beach was stunning though. We had breakfast and packed up to leave. They gave us a CD on check out from the Inn of romantic beach music! Such a nice touch. I was sad to leave. It was so nice there.

We ended up with a 7 hour drive plus the hour that ...

Woke up to the sound of thunder which is unusual for the morning but I do love storms. It was lightning late into the night which we could see nicely from our balcony and from our bed. I fell asleep to it. But there was no thunder…until this morning. We went to breakfast which was included and fabulous. All fresh food and chefs preparing eggs/omelets and cute little baby waffles. Lots of fruit and fresh juices too along ...

This morning we awoke to find ants all over our food and the bag. I noticed it right before we were packing to leave and put my arm in the bag and got bit by the ants. They were everywhere. The building we were staying in is very old and I suspect I should have known that this could happen but we spent 4 nights with the food in the Country Inn and Suites and nothing so I wasn't conscious at all of bugs. They were ...

So I put them on anyway, no one is going to see me while I am on the bike, and a few gas station attendants won't matter. As it turns out the additional ventilation is quite welcome! I make 3 stops today, and at each I look for/ask for a small sewing kit so as to effect repairs, but without success. Sadly as the day wears on the opening begins flapping in the wind and getting bigger, by days end it exceeds even my own ...

The #1 Beach in the USA, the Mezes and Johnson

Despite our abysmal trip through Alligator Alley we had a lovely drive as we headed north out of Florida. Once on the gulf coast Lew and I decided to stop at Siesta Key. The key is proudly adorned with signs proclaiming it the #1 Beach in the USA. It was quite beautiful, but none of the beaches were dog friendly. That leaves it's rankings far below the #1 ranking it boasts, but I'll post photos and allow you to decide for yourself.

    After an interminable ...
