We continue to make our way east, next stop the Upper Peninsula of the state of Michigan to the city of Marquette. The population was 21,355 at the 2010 census, making it the most populated city of the UP. Note: the entire UP only has a little over 311,000 residence. Marquette is a major port on Lake Superior, primarily for shipping iron ore (see picture below of train dock), and is the home of Northern Michigan University. We visited Nick and Connie last night; at that time we agreed to meet at 10:00 am to go to the Big Boy for breakfast at their breakfast buffet. The key was 'bacon' . . . Carol really likes bacon on a breakfast buffet!
I had gotten up early . . . about 5:45 am . . . got dressed enough for a little hike uphill to the neighborhood Starbucks. This was about 3/8th of a mile . . . all uphill . . . but the downhill portion would be with a hot cup of java . . . ...
... recommneded it last time; it is close to where they live, easy to get to, and a well-kept older property. The rooms are clean and quite large with extra space for bags, etc.
We got settled and checked in at home. Then, made our way to Nick & Connie's. We visited until 11:00 pm, then called it a night. We made plans for them to pick us up for breakfast, then visit some of the attractions, including The Yooper Museum in Ispeming!! We turned in.
