All week the weather forecast called for 50 degrees and heavy rain/thunderstorms during the race. Thankfully, I was prepared. We stayed at the Marriott in downtown Louisville, which made things super easy. Race start time was at 7:30 AM and I woke up at 6:45, threw on my race clothes, and walked out the door.

The race itself was nice, albeit crowded for the half marathoners. My favorite part was actually running through Churchill Downs. The ...

After all that culture, we had to try some Southern Food. I live in Texas but have not spent a significant amount of time in the American South, which explains why today I tried my first Fried Green Tomato. It was tart! We merge onto I-65, and head south towards ...

We drove to Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. It is right next to the University of Louisville and of course Ron had to wear his MSU shirt, just to rub it in.
Not knowing much about horse racing, this was really a very interesting place to visit. Some of the exhibits were very creative and the track was beautiful. On race day, they get 160,000 spectators. It is just a massive ...

... the bourbon’s we tasted. (they did not offer a taste of the $400 bottle) It was great fun touring this history rich area; learning the origins of the distilleries’ founding families, how Prohibition affected them (1920-1933) and current day stuff.  Woodford Reserve is a huge sponsor of the Kentucky Derby held first weekend in May. Some day we would like to go to the Derby, alas not this trip as we need to be on the road to Gettysburg, PA. ...
