    ... and Vanessa comforting her mum. We took Alyssa (their teenage daughter( to dinner at a lovely Italian place to keep her mind off it. Today has been a stark reminder of what we should be thankful for. And I am thankful for my family and friends. My life can't be any better. x

    ... it seems we can still ride our bikes reasonably well and we banged out a seventy mile out and back from the campground to Big Sur along Highway 1 - the scenic coastal highway - meeting 11 cycle tourers (the same as on the entire Divide route) who were completing all or part of the Pacific Coast tour from Canada to Mexico. The coastline was beautiful and the highway hugged it all the way. It reminded us of the stretch from Lizard Point to Land's End in Cornwall. ...
