          ... We then went up to the McKenzie Pass through the lava flows. Very dramatic. It was like being on The moon. You could see where the lava moved through the valley and where it stopped. A few trees had managed to start to grow in it but it was incredible. We walked to the observatory so we could see the surrounding mountains (volcanoes). As we went to leave we met a chipmunk who was very friendly and knew how to work the crowd. ...

          ... moving, smooth in some areas but rapid-filled in others. All along the banks and through the scrub you could see people wadding around or floating in inflatable doughnuts and riding the current downstream. The best was a group of people who had tied a rope and a surfboard to a tree, so they could continually ride the rapids in a wake-boarding style.

Outside of laundry, we spent the majority of the night watching the Olympics and constantly checking the weather for the remainder of our 300 mile trek (seriously, that's it!) to Seattle.
