Blythe, California, United States maxbrandes... at the start of the ride. No SUN!
The Interstate I-10 was nearby heading all the way to Tucson. It was at least 60 miles before I cleared LA and all the suburbs. The I-10 gently winds its way out of LA with no sharp curves or over steep climbs, even as it crosses or rather meanders through the vallies of the mountains eventually ending up in the desert (not sure which one).
In one particular valley there was ...
We got up as early as we could on Tuesday morning as we had to pick the hire car up between 9 and 10am from the car hire company. More hassle! We decided to take a taxi to the car hire company which was just round the block but too far to walk. We approached the first taxi who said he couldn't take us because we had too much luggage but then capitulated. We are still not sure whether this was some sort of sense of humour or he just decided he wanted the money ...
Blythe, California, United States yvonne.stowe... air was very cool, so I dressed in layers and ended up taking most of them off. God blessed us with a very warm day and hardly any wind. Yahoo! I got a cup of tea and a donut (shhhhhhh!) while they set up the game. Dale told me to lose so we wouldn't have to spend all day doing this. We won the first game against Kathy and Terry. Dale threw two 5 pointers on top of each other, plus more points to win the game. The second game we won with ...
Quartzsite, Arizona, United States dusterbin... it anyway and shared it with everyone. So I was up early, 5:45 to get it ready to bake. When I found out breakfast wasn't until 9 am, I went to sleep on our couch and slept so good. The room was warm by then. After breakfast we had a triathlon for old people. Wait a minute, we aren't old! We split up into teams S, K, and P - which stands for Escapee -SKP. Dale and I were on K team. Our first event was to take a ...
Quartzsite, Arizona, United States dusterbin... It was windy and we had to bunch up and pull an RV up for a wind breaker. Yet, with all that, we ate and ran back to our rigs. This weather sure puts a damper on a good party. So here we are, me in my pj's and Dale working on his web site watching TV and listening to the wind whistling around us, rocking and rolling the rig. It will be a wild sleep tonight.
Quartzsite, Arizona, United States dusterbinDale and I are finding out that Quartzite is a town in transition most of the time. The town is divided by I-10 and Hwy 95. From Hwy 95 to I-10, you will find RV dealers and tents. On the other side of I-10 is the town. Within the town you will find normal businesses but many, many RV parks and RV services. It seems this place fills up with RV's during the months of October through January. Quartzsite has different ...
Quartzsite, Arizona, United States dusterbin... of water component too, but I resisted. Maybe I was afraid he wouldn't take my $3.79 for a gallon of water if he thought I was a smart ass. Apparently water, like gas, is more expensive here. But, truth be known, I would have paid 10 times that if I had to. There was a guy out front sitting at a picnic table. Asked me what I was doing out there (hmmm? I was starting to wonder that too). Told him it was just something I always considered ...
Blythe, California, United States jimfrondorf... the terrain again changed to lush, green fields of crops. The Palo Verde Valley is another year-round agricultural region, with extensive irrigation systems supplied by the Colorado River. Today we saw fields of alfalfa, broccoli, melons, cotton, lettuce, parsley, wheat, barley, and more. We also saw several fields with herds of sheep. We reached Palo Verde, population 600, at mile 69. We stopped at the small gas station and grocery store to use their restroom and ...
Blythe, California, United States kedd... one large piece of sandstone sticks out like an elephants tooth. So much so that the town has named this landmark, "The elephants tooth". I don't know. It doesn't look much like a tusk to me. But it is impressive looking. We took the donation tour of the "Glory Hole" A converted store, Knicknack shop, museum. It's name was what was so impressive. I thought to ask the curator, "Why Glory hole?" She promptly answered that a glory hole was the term for a mine ...
