... 8.30am tour tomorrow morning of a couple of working Amish farms and we need to have had breakfast, packed the car and checked out by then.
Tomorrow afternoon it's off to Washington DC for Monday and Tuesday night, then Wednesday and Thursday night it's a couple of nights on the road (with a stop at the Richard petty Motorsports shop in Charlotte), followed by Friday Saturday and Sunday in Savannah. Busy week coming ...
... we were traversing Upstate New York. Still very green, but a different type of landscape, more hills than mountains.
We got off the interstate prior to getting to Harrisburg, and wove our what through a few small towns. Bec wonder if the GPS had a setting in it somewhere for visiting every crack street in the States because again we seemed to find the dodgy end of town. ... and browsed the many shops, including a wonderful quilt shop. The town changed its name only recently. I think it was previously known as Crossed Keys. I am not sure why the change. We then set off again and again got lost but ended up at an Amish farm and shop, where they served freshly made ice creams and soft pretzels that were very tasty. We eventually found our way back to Lancaster and our hotel, exhausted after a very enjoyable and informative ...
The way out of DC was a nightmare due to road blocks and heavy storms. Late in the evening we finally arrived in our B & B in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The reward for the tiring ride was a very warm welcome by the friendly host family and a spacious, lovely room. After an amazing home-made breakfast the weather got friendlier at last and we explored the thriving Amish community in the area. The traditional lifestyle is ...
... they must have been buried somewhere else) and they had names on headstones of people that weren't yet dead!!!! Never seen that before
Dinner was a typical Amish dinner - slices of ham and beef, a dish of mashed potato covered in gravy, sweet corn and beans. Dessert was an amazing three different goodies. A chocolate cake like a wagon wheel, a piece of pie (fruit unidentifiable) and an apple slice.
The beds were very comfortable
