Historical Traveler Reviews Comfort Suites Airport & Cruise Port Fort Lauderdale

      ONLY as last resort!!

      from

Our family (6 of us) decided to stay here the night before embarking on a cruise on March 11, 2005. My intention was to save a few bucks and rent one suite, enjoy the free shuttle service and the free breakfast buffet the morning before our cruise. The tone was set immediately upon arriving in Ft Lauderdale as we waited nearly an hour for the "free shuttle" after making 5 phone calls to the hotel! When we arrived at the hotel, we were welcomed with the same outgoing personnel that had responded to my five phone calls---not a mention of our wait at the airport! Our room was very ordinary, not the cleanest or newest but we decided to suck it up and make the best of a bad situation as it was now 11pm. We were on the highway side of the hotel and it was like sleeping next to the Indy 500!!

Bottom line here is, spend the few extra bucks and avoid this place.

Oh, by the way, our cruise was incredible!!!!

Front desk staff in need of repair

      from

Returned from a cruise recently and had reservations at the Comfort Suites

for the day since our cruise arrived early AM and our flight home was scheduled late evening. Upon arrival to the front desk, our greeting couldn't have been more unwelcoming. Our room smelled musty and we didn't even think about stepping foot into the bathroom shower. At one point we neeed change for a $50.00 and had to wait until someone could open the cash drawer (it was not busy). When it was finally open, we were told that they did not have the change even though there were maybe four to six hotel employees and two van drivers right there with NO ONE making any attempt to come up with $50.00 in change! We were told to go to the Taco Bell next door and ask them.... Very unaccomodating.

      Get what you pay for!

      from

We only stayed for 1 night before we had to fly out to the Bahamas. We check in around 10pm and had to check out the next day by 6am. The room was quite big and pretty clean. The only problem was the loud air-con/heater. That basically kept us up all night!

Not worth the money, don't stay

      from

My finacee and I stayed here on 6-8-04 for 1 night, before our Discovery cruise on the 9th. I booked this hotel over 3 months early, at a great price, and then began to read the bad stories. We decided to deal with it since it was only 1 night. It looked very nice from the outside, with a small parking lot, and on very busy roads. We checked in with no probelm, but they were not real friendly. We grabbed our things and went up to the room. There were a couple of workers walking around, but it wasn't a big deal. We got into our room and it looked a little run down, and I felt like it smelled like bug spray. I just didn't really want to stay there or even take off my shoes. But hey it's only one night. Then we heard all of these power tools and banging on the walls. It was so loud and disturbing. It kept going, so we decided that since we couldn't hear each other we should find out when it will stop and go out until then. I went down and asked the guy at the desk and he told us 2-4 hours, but ya never know. I was very upset. I told him that I was going to listen to this much longer. WE came back and it had stopped. The hotel was not great at all. It does provide scheduled shuttles to the airport and cruise port. It's a nice location, but it horrible to get out of the parking lot. We could wait 5-10 minutes just to get out. We didn't want to leave the hotel because of the very busy street that it's on. Spend the extra bucks and get a better hotel thats closer to the cruiseport.

Would definitely NOT recommend this place

      from

This place is in desperate need of a renovation. The bathroom was old and the shower tiles were moldy. There was what appeared to be rust and scum around the faucets. The paint was peeling off the ceiling. We ended up checking out after only one night because it was so unpleasant. The evening staff at the front desk was very nice, but the lady that checked us out the following morning had a serious attitude problem. One the plus side, the free deluxe continental breakfast was nice. But even with that, I would NEVER recommend anyone stay here. Do what we did and spend the extra bucks to stay at the Renaissance down the street. The comfort will be well worth the expense.

      Hapless at this hotel

      from

I arrived at this hotel at 6.00p.m. with my mother and 4 young tired children, with a confirmation from orbitz for a room. They refused to honor my confirmation and did not even try to give me a decent price for us to stay. The front desk girls were nice they called the front desk manager(whom was at home because they have no-one on duty at night to handle any kind of situation that may occur) and he was the rudest individual I have ever incounted! He refused to even try to accommodate us. We ended up staying and treated wonderfullly down the road a bit at the Hampton Inn. I would definitly not recommend this place to anyone!!!

      Great Stay/Great Staff

Arrived late and tired--Front Desk person was cheerful and made me feel at home while very quickly checking me in.Free breakfast was great and the server was very helpfull. Definetely would recommend this hotel.

A great stay at a great price

      from

I stayed at the Comfort Suites Airport & Cruise in January before going on a cruise with my family. The staff was friendly and very helpful.

The hotel is immaculate and offers a great room for a great price. Also very convenient to the cruise port and airport in Fort Lauderdale.

      thank you

I would definately recommend this hotel

When we arrived at the airport I called the hotel from one of the phones provided and within a fairly short period of time the shuttle came to pick us up. The room was fairly nice. My friend said the pull out coach bed was not that comfortable and I thought the regular bed was a little hard, but not that bad. The people at the front desk were very nice. They answered all of my questions and proptly brought us another blanket when we requested one. The shuttle took us to the port and then after a stay in the Bahamas we returned. The shuttle was already waiting for us to take us back to the hotel. The shuttle also took us to the airport the next day as well. The drivers were very nice and on the way to the airport they even had a trailer on the back of the van (shuttle) so that they took take everyones luggage. This was good since we have large suitcase. We were there on a Tuesday night when they have a free beer and wine reception. That was very nice. The buffet breakfast was better than I expected. They had toast, bagels, danish and a make your own waffle station. The had internet access for something like $.20 a minute in the lobby. The pool was also very nice.

It was warm, which was good and they provided you with towels at the pool. They also were happy to provide us with dinner recommindations and other information about the area. I would definately recommend this hotel.

      Horror at Comfort Suites

      from

When I arrived at the Comfort Suites Airport & Cruise Port, I encountered unprofessional, unhappy, young desk clerks that did not understand that I was the customer. Since I was staying at the hotel because I am a student at Nova Southeastern, I asked the desk clerk at 2:30 a.m. if he would print a copy of my report for me and that I would be willing to pay for it. The young man stated that I had to go to Kinko's since there was a policy at Comfort Suites that the clerks could not print anything for customers using the hotel's computer. I could understand that but then why not offer a computer in the lobby that I could access. In the morning I asked a female clerk if the hotel had any sample toothpaste tubes because I forgot mine. She said, "NO".

I was shocked because every hotel I have ever stayed in had samples of toothpaste on hand. Then I asked another female clerk for directions to the Nova campus from the Comfort Suites hotel and she sent me out of the hotel driveway in the wrong direction and I arrived late to class.

The next evening I called the front desk and spoke to the young man requesting a 6:00 a.m. wake-up call. He said, "Okay". The straw that broke the camel's back occurred when I received the very wake-up call at 4:00 a.m. which was 2 hours earlier than I requested. Unfortunately, I could not get back to sleep. So, I got ready for school and checked out of the hotel. Please be advised that I found another hotel to check into and they offered me free internet service in the lobby and the ability to print my report free. The new hotel also offered me a free hot breakfast with omlettes, juice and waffles in the morning. Needless to say, the new hotel that I went to had competent employees that woke me everyday at 6:00 a.m. at the exact time that I scheduled the wake-up call. The new hotel also gave me three (3), free, complimentary drinks at their bar. The nice thing was that the new hotel charged me $1.00 less than the Comfort Suites & Cruise Port Horror Hotel.

After Lake Okeechobee the crops changed to sugar cane and cattle.  There were a couple of huge fires near the road, presumably burning off cane fields (although we never did find out for sure).  Then we were driving alongside the Everglades until we got into the hustle and bustle of Fort Lauderdale and found our hotel. We went out to a place called Cafe el Tamarindo for dinner.  The food was delicious, the wine ...

Key West is as it appears online and in movies, a couple of main streets lined with bar, club and restaurants. This place is very representative of Bourbon Street in New Orleans (that I was able to validate later in this road trip).

We check out the interior cabins - definitely not for us! Obstructed view cabins where the lifeboat is the view out of your window. As we walked back to our apartment there were people hanging out of their high rise apartment windows banging those pots and pans. There were people hanging out of car windows banging those pots and pans too. So amazing to be part of that. We were laughing about it.
