My scheduled flight to Shanghai was delayed which would make me miss my flight to Bangkok. So working all the other options - found a way to go through Beijing to make it there as scheduled.
Glad I was flying first class - the staff in the lounge was able to pull it off. They even went and retagged my checked bag to the correct flights.
... turned out that the manager of the restaurant was from Long Beach. Small world. We enjoyed the park's attractions. The Cloud Gate was very interesting...it's mirrors reflect both the skyline and the tourists gaping at it. We drove back to the Chicago area today, in part to stop by Todd's office, but mostly to see Carl Hiaasen at a book talk and signing in the town where we got married. Rachel was beside herself with excitement, and the event was everything she thought it would be and more! Hiaasen was witty, very friendly, and interesting to listen to as he discussed the inspiration for his latest novel. She even managed to snag a photo with him.
